Meet Ashley Shapiro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Shapiro.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love for lactation started in 2018 when I personally went through breastfeeding challenges with my child. I struggled through six weeks of breastfeeding issues, my baby also had a lip tie, which was a huge learning curve on how to navigate as a first-time mom. I discovered a lactation consultant that changed my life and saved my breastfeeding journey, that’s when I knew I had to be a Lactation Consultant. I obtained my International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential from The University of California San Diego. I have my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and I’m a Postpartum Registered Nurse working on the Mother Baby Unit and a Baby Nurse on Labor and Delivery.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a fairly smooth road! No complaints as a business owner (yet)! I would have to say I’m pretty fortunate since this whole journey has started.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Ashley Shapiro Lactation offers services for Prenatal, Postpartum, Virtual, and Infancy and beyond consultations. What makes me unique is that I’m also a registered Nurse with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. My background is in postpartum/Mother Baby and I’m a baby nurse on the Labor and Delivery unit. This is an added bonus because I can provide tips and tricks for the family unit after the birth of their infant. I’m most proud of being a mom to my two kids; they have been my best accomplishment!

How do you think about luck?
I’d have to say I felt pretty lucky when I met a lactation consultant that changed my breastfeeding journey. After meeting with one who was not helpful, luck brought another LC and I together and changed my life. In that moment having her support and genuine interest in my breastfeeding success, I knew I needed to be a lactation consultant. I knew I had to help other moms not go through what I went through and give them full support with their feeding goals.
