Meet Ashley Sade

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Sade.

Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a singer/songwriter out here in South Central Los Angeles. I knew singing was my passion when I was five, I would sing Mary J in my grandmother’s backyard and at that time, my water bottle was my mic and since then I’ve created a platform to where the real mic is in my hand and my pain tells the story. I grew up singing in churches and that’s where I get my soul from. If I’m not passionate about it, I won’t sing it or write it. And despite of my hardships and my downfalls, I still manage to get a beautiful message across through music. I’m working on my ep called “beautiful struggle” and it basically gives you my pain, story and outlook all into a beat, and I’m really glad to take you on this journey with me. And to show the world that we can find beauty in our pain.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In this industry, it has not been the best. I’ve been out in positions where my rights were taken from me and I couldn’t do anything about it and I had to keep my music on the low until my contract ended. It was very hard at the time because I had given up everything to break into the industry as a writer and a singer but sometimes, you have to come across the snakes to really see your truest potential. Even with the men in this industry that uses their power to try to taint the business side and personal side of music has been a really big issue coming to this industry. But I always reflect on my granny when she said “even though you’re in the world, you are not of the world”. That always allowed me to go into my inner self and realize that these things don’t make me, it’s who I am at heart that makes me and I would never taint my music for that kind of clout. Period Pooh

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer and songwriter, and that alone has opened many doors for me. I had opportunities with Calvin Klein and Prada projects, where my music was featured on the campaign and that really made me realize how big I can take this if I continue to believe in myself. I’ve been on stages with many signed and unsigned artist that has even given me the platform to share my talent to the world and that’s what keeps me grounded in life. To not only get paid to do what you love but to bless people with your gift as well.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory of childhood was getting a platform to sing on stage when I was five years old. The boldness and the fearlessness I had in me was unstoppable but sometimes life gets hard and we lose a little sight of that lil girl we once were. And I think it’s important that we find that person again and live life to the fullest because you never know when it’s your time.
