Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Park.
Ashley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
“For better or worse, I needed to give up on Hollywood before I could produce films here.”
In 2010, I was a newly minted actress in LA. Naively optimistic, and full of expectation, I learned quickly, that for every role booked, there were ninety-nine parts I would never play. While this might seem discouraging, it taught me to really savor the experience of working in film and television. Shortly after arriving in Hollywood, I was fortunate to win the title of Miss Asia USA, and in addition to the crown, I was awarded a scholarship that allowed me to earn an MBA in Marketing.
Raised in the hard-working tradition of a family business, my parents instilled in me the value of ingenuity and perseverance. Over time, I became increasingly interested in combining my interest in marketing, my firsthand knowledge of the entertainment industry, and my natural entrepreneurial tendencies. I stepped back from the Hollywood rat race and challenged myself to create on my own terms.
I started Ashley Park Productions with the goal of nurturing stories that challenge and inspire, with a commitment to social advocacy and education through film. My first project world premiered at Tribeca last year and won the 2018 AIVA Communicator Award of Excellence for Film Production, and I am now producing a feature film entitled STAY with a multiple Emmy Award-winning team.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always struggles associated with being an entrepreneur and small business owner. I have seen and experienced firsthand the responsibilities and pressure of keeping a business afloat, sometimes when it seems to defy all odds. This includes everything from financial duress to business relationships.
I have found that one of the most important aspects of the business (and life, really) is to learn the ability to be discerning when it comes to relationships, who gets involved in your business, and any decisions associated with it. I believe the people you surround yourself with truly can make or break your business and your spirit.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
Ashley Park Productions is a production company in Los Angeles, created to produce content and films. While being primarily focused on producing high concept independent feature films for distribution, a variety of content can be developed, from digital and printed works to commercials, films and beyond. Nurturing imaginative stories and bringing them to life is what Ashley Park Productions is all about.
What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
The feature film I’m working on in association with Brandon Walker and Andrew Eckblad of Mansion Hill Pictures is my main focus at the moment. While I am producing and working on multiple other projects, this feature, entitled STAY, will be in production throughout spring and summer 2019.
This film is a unique, high concept feature, and is a springboard for multiple other projects that we have lined up for the near future. I am both excited and determined to step into this next phase and intend to always move forward in pursuit of persistent, intelligent, hard work.
