Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Bowier and Angelique Williams.
Ashleigh and Angelique, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Angelique and I met in 2009, during our 9th-grade geometry class. During the first week, we bonded immediately over music and fashion. During our 10th grade year, we started doing photography and from that point on we had been nearly inseparable because of our shared interests.
As we got older, we visited the idea of a blog. We were avid Tumblr users, but what about our own, something personal, something we can call our own versus “reblogging”. We “wanted” to do this for YEARS, since 2015-2016 (oh how I wish, we started back then) but we got caught up in the “right time” mindset. There was never a right time, it was all about doing it. We finally did just that, March 2018.
Since then, we’ve finally tapped into our “creative bags” and have done so much growing since all that time we “wasted.” We’ve done our own creative direction, photography, web design, graphic design, creative writing, and working as an actual brand and business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles that have happened along the way was not so much working as a unit but balancing the workload. Neither one of us ever wanted to feel like the others light was dim. We wanted to agree on every decision mutually and compromise when needed, as painlessly as possible.
During the last few months, Angelique was in school so her time was dedicated to graduating (and she did so with honors!) so I struggled with not wanting to take over completely but also making sure we’re putting out the content. She assured me that she appreciated the work that I was doing to keep the blog going and that was the best thing I had heard during the time.
Another struggle that we had was relying on others to get things done that we wanted because we may not have had all the resources OR we were picky because we had done everything ourselves. One day we’ll get the recognition for being a two gal team for all that we’re capable of, but until then we’ll continue working as hard as we have.
The2Gals – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are The 2 Gals. We are lifestyle bloggers and tastemakers, I would say. We represent for the girls who like to be cozy, we like to use our platform to showcase local talent whether it be designers, musicians, photographers, authors, any art form that the talent participates in.
I would say most people check for our Music and Style pages. We curate playlists at the end of each month, and showcase the current talents in the city that we stand behind (and always looking for)! I think our biggest job is being a resource for big brands and people in a position to stay tuned into what’s hot in LA.
Honestly, I think the proudest moment thus far, is starting. I’m so excited for our platform to be deemed as resourceful for a multitude of things ranging from skincare tips to music, to style.
I believe what sets us apart from other bloggers is we like to seek out the “underdogs” and although we may be seen as such as well, we are all about networking across and uplifting everyone together.
