Meet Ashlee Langas of The Wavvy Cloud

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Langas.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m originally from east Texas and I moved to LA in 2007 after being selected as a top 20 finalist on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance. After a decade of dancing professionally, with credits including Bette Midler, Robin Thicke and Ricky Martin, I transitioned my love of movement into a career as a yoga teacher and personal trainer. I was terrified to start teaching but my wife encouraged me to start teaching friends and it grew from there. I have built up a roster of clients over the last seven years that I am super proud of.

In 2019, I launched a lifestyle brand called The Wavvy Cloud – a lens through which we can view the world and see the kindness that surrounds us. Some days that kindness is easier to see than others and on those days we have to have compassion for ourselves and the people around us. It’s in those moments that The Wavvy Cloud becomes a place that gives us an opportunity to practice being the most authentic version of ourselves and let our freak flag fly.

Using cannabis products to turn our attention to how we feel in our body and mind allows us to go a little deeper into our yoga practice. Stoned Yoga™ is a journey into the body and back out again where on the other side we feel more connected to ourselves, allowing us to be more compassionate to those around us.

Has it been a smooth road?
I really struggled during my years dancing professionally. My skin was way too thin for the audition process and looking back, I realize I had crippling anxiety and depression. In 2012, after calling off a wedding and coming out to my parents, I signed up for a yoga teacher training as a way to figure my shit out. It was life-changing, however, my transition from dancer to yoga teacher was painful. Dancing and performing was the only thing I knew and throwing in the towel felt like a loss of my identity. As I discovered my voice as a teacher, I realized it was a new way to express myself through movement and it was a lot like performing. From 2017-2019 I co-owned a yoga studio in DTLA called The Mystic Rebel. Running a yoga studio is A LOT different than teaching and we were definitely in it for the love of our community not the money. It was a huge learning experience as well as a playground to experiment. This is where I incubated Stoned Yoga™.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I created The Wavvy Cloud in 2019 to build out a wellness brand around my Stoned Yoga™ experiences. I am interested in bringing people of all different ages, gender identities, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or socio-economic status together to practice being our most authentic selves with the help of cannabis and movement. I feel like I have achieved this with the events I have produced over the last two years. I use cannabis as a wellness tool to promote intentional consumption (and that relates to more than just cannabis) as well as digging into how we hold stress and trauma in our body. I also work one-on-one with clients as a wellness coach offering yoga, fitness, and mindfulness to get people feeling better in their body. I’ve found a passion for working with moms both pre and postnatally (and sometimes way postnatally!) to get strong and stay strong.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I have always been a hopeless romantic about LA. I feel like this city invites its residents to be and try anything. I do feel like there are a lot of yoga teachers, personal trainers and wellness coaches that make the market feel really saturated. My advice to someone starting out is that if you figure out your niche your community will find you.
