Meet Ashida Onrae of The Marriage Movement

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashida Onrae.

As the Founder and CEO of The Marriage Movement, she created the company to provide a fun and exciting place for engaged/married couples to receive a wealth of information on important topics to help improve couple’s relationships before and during marriage.

As a motivational speaker and entrepreneur, Ashida’s goal is to inspire others through her personal journey. Her passion for life, along with her candid humor about her own marital pitfalls, has led many to seek out her advice and insight.

In 2002, when Ashida was planning her wedding, she realized that she and her fiancé didn’t have the knowledge that would provide them with the tools to handle the many obstacles that they were up against; such as dealing with finances, communication, intimacy, family, emotional health and more. In preparation, they went to pre-marital counseling. However, it wasn’t until after her marriage failed that she realized that some of the key factors that led to her marriage ending were not taught to her in pre-marital counseling.

Sharing her own incredible story as a testimony, she speaks on how she overcame her fears, a broken heart and a failed marriage by putting her plan into action; she began the healing process and most importantly the forgiveness process.

Unfortunately, many couples enter into a marriage unprepared and really haven’t taken the time to consider the obstacles that may lie ahead. Getting married isn’t just about the wedding; it’s about your life together, as one, after saying, “I Do”.

From Ms. Onrae’s personal experiences, The Marriage Movement was born.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Operating your own business will be one of the hardest, nerve-recking, exciting and exhilerating thing you can ever do. You will have many ups and downs along the way…from filing taxes, to staying up late at night working, to dealing with clients, writing content, social media management, etc.

I remember when I was putting on my first event, Couples Who Rock!, I was looking for a keynote speaker for my event. Luckily a friend of mine knew one of my favorite actresses, Holly Robinson Peete. Being an event and wedding planner, I was able to handle all the details of putting an event together, from securing top talent along with two other motivational speakers, dealing with multiple vendors, to dealing with the hotel, packaging items for the gift bags, and responding to RSVP’s. The night before the event, I stayed up until 4am stuffing the gift bags, going over the guest list, making sure I had all the items needed and packed up my car. I got three hours of sleep. I arrived at the hotel, ensured the food and tables were set up nicely, the stage, sound, and mic were all working and the vendors knew where to go to set up. I remember stepping on to the stage and feeling pure exhaustion. But I knew the show must go on. I took the mic and started speaking and shared my story. When the event was over and everyone stayed to network, chit chat, and relax, at that moment, I knew I had a successful event. Each attendee waited to speak with me and thanked me for an amazing event. And most imporantly, Holly Robinson Peete thanked me as well for hosting such a fabulous event and said she’s looking forward to the next one. I knew in my heart, I had started something amazing. This event happened in 2015 and I grew a lot since then – I wrote a book, working on my second book, became a speaker at events, and planned several weddings. I grew so much that I now have a staff. I grew a lot professionally and personally from that event. I learned that even though I was able to pull it off solo, to grow and sustain a business, you need help. And I am glad I was able to grow into having a support team that can help me go the extra mile.
