Asher, Benjamin, and Chrysha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We are a company founded in 2016 with the vision to create a platform that provides entry level employment opportunities for student artists, as well as to redefine creativity with a fun twist. SIP+COLR connects local artists to the community by creating events such as paint nights. The median income for painters in 2015 is $35,600, lower than most recent graduates from engineering or business majors. SIP+COLR provides a user-friendly medium for artists to host paint night sessions and start making money. The community can view the artist’s profile and review and pick the sessions/painting featured to attend.
We are currently based in Orange County and South LA and are looking to expand our market to inland Los Angeles and San Diego.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a start-up business, there has always been challenges. Perhaps the biggest obstacle we faced as a team is employee turnover. Because our artists tend to be college students, it has been difficult for management to retain them. However, our management team has not always viewed this as a bad thing. We saw this as an opportunity for us to be exposed to new inputs and ideas.
Nonetheless, we are looking for new team members who are self-determined, driven and willing to growth with the team. We want our team members to become pioneers in the artistic industries in the aforementioned regions.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sip and Colr story. Tell us more about the business.
One thing we are very proud of our company is that we were able to gain huge recognition from our immediate communities. Even though we do not have the market share size compared to our competitors, we quickly became the most popular and immersive sip and paint night in Orange County and South LA.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do think that luck played a role in our business. We were blessed with a lot of networking opportunities and a supportive community. Nonetheless, without our team’s diligent attitude and entrepreneurial vision, we wouldn’t have been where we are right now.
