Meet Asha Laroux

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asha Laroux.

Hi Asha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m an actress born and raised in Chicago, IL and currently live in Los Angeles for the last eight years pursuing my career. Growing up in a single-parent household, we weren’t wealthy. My mom made sure that it never impeded on our education and cultural experiences. My younger sister and I were exposed to all types of Art from very young, and it’s definitely made a huge impact on my life. Movies and live performances being one of my top faves. My favorite movies are The Goofy Movie and Jordan Peele’s Get Out. And after watching Jurassic Park 2 was the first time I said I wanted to be an actress I was like eight and it was the first time I saw someone who looked like me around my age in an action thriller. I was hooked! In middle school was when I auditioned and landed my first role in a live theatre production of A Christmas Carol. And That’s when the acting bug really sunk its teeth in and from there, it was non stop. After high school, I went to college for Psychology. What makes people tick and patterns of social behavior have always fascinated me. But I didn’t feel as fulfilled as I did when I was doing theater. It was definitely a different way of breaking down a personality and behavior. And I loved that connection.

Then the light bulb went off. I wanted to pursue my love. My dreams of becoming an actress, I hitched a ride to LA one break with a friend and audited a couple of acting classes, had an impromptu audition and I went back to Chicago with a plan. Dropped out of school worked 3-4 jobs for a year to save enough and booked a one way flight to my dreams. Now I’m eight years in, Asha Laroux isn’t just an actress she’s a business. Currently, Asha Laroux is creating emerging artist co-op workspaces, Just Art Studios. Starting with LA and hopes of one day to expand nationwide. Also, Producing my own new show The Cabernet Chronicles. You can catch the teaser and other content on my channel Yo Asha Tv on YouTube. Now that the city has been opening back up auditions are pouring in. Currently auditioning for some guest and co-star roles on major networks like The CW, Lifetime, and UbranflixTv. So stay tuned you’re sure to see my face soon. Stay up to date with Asha on Instagram @AshaLaroux_

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road! No path to greatness was ever easy though right? This journey has pushed and broken me so many times. I’ve had to come face to face with my own depression and anxiety. I was homeless and couch surfing for almost a year. You know living the LA dream. I’ve had my car broken into and then stolen. And then Covid hit and it was like the world was ending. I had no idea what I was going to do. Acting is sooo low on the essential business scale. I felt I chose the wrong path for my life at some points.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I looove Art. All Art. Singing, dancing, creating anything out of nothing. I also have a home decor business. Instagram: @Kre8_Kustomz where I handcraft custom trays, bar carts, home decor, etc. I have a passion for painting as well. My grandmother was an art teacher for many years and I had the pleasure of being her art project guinea pig. It’s definitely more of a soothing hobby. Acting and the occasional karaoke rock star moment are my true loves.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Post covid era! Well everything is going digital and that’s great because for the entertainment industry now is the time to hit the ground running. The platforms have been leveled. We as creatives now have an even playing field to make produce and get our own content out to the world. There’s definitely still industry hoops to jump through but I see this as a new awakening for the entertainment industry.
