Today we’d like to introduce you to Arrington Fleming.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A young creative from Prince George’s County, Maryland decided to pack up a car on October 26th, 2017 and drive across the country for five days to fulfill his dreams to build the most impactful fashion house. Leaving two great career jobs and loved ones was not easy at all. Heading to the California state without a living situation or a job lined up. Homeless for the first year and a half of the journey. From living out the car, friend’s floors, giving up the car and sneaking in design studios just to sleep. Getting kicked out of the studios to having to sleep on the concrete. But me finally doing something for myself I was at my happiest and all worth it. Doing the process of everything I picked up pattern making and how to construct a whole garment from scratch. Just from my past history of styling and developing streetwear in the DMV, I also had the eye of constructing concepts and stories and tell it all through art. I helped a lot of the brands back home and even big commercial brands with driving their business as far as marketing direction. Just moving to L.A. open my mind way more to how creative I can truly be. Not just for my self but to help anyone I could that have an idea and don’t know how to present it to the world. I have to thank Gustavo, Pampino, Ta’lor, and Reginald for teaching me so much since I been out here. These 4 are the future of directing the world by A.R.T. [A Real Thing]. I’m gearing up with 4 collections in the vault and releasing a capsule collection as we speak called [pre-draft] The Service Åct Capsule Collection. Created all the silhouettes. Cut and sewed all my samples with developing the treatment for all the roll out. I’m at such a high right now in life. You can really do anything in this world. Take risk and take notes from them. The bigger mission is to build creative houses all over the world for those
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have to say keeping my mindset strong when I didn’t have a home to go to. I went to Starbucks and the library every day to study, sketch, practice pattern making, and just some time to my self. Really developing the fashion house [A R R] out of nothing. Some days, I didn’t eat at all because I bought fabric instead.
Please tell us about A R R.
[A R R] is a fashion house that is build off my name “Arrington”. It means to lead by. Beyond compared, unbroken, and untamable.
Engineering your own destiny. Creating a world of thought, emotion, and purity. A form of storytelling through the arts. It can go from a pass time to a created time. ARR is about who you are as a soul. Representing qualities of the real individual.
I’m known for my storytelling abilities through art. How an event or a film can be express through garments. I can say I specialize in sourcing. Finding that rare fabric and unique textures, but also developing my own silhouettes. For example, I really spent two months getting the perfect pant silhouette for one of the pieces for the capsule collection. I have the most patience with pattern making.
Finally going with the direction I want to go and not holding back is what I’m most proud of as a fashion house.
You will really see the next couple of months what sets me apart from everybody else. Promise!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start it over, it will be the exact same steps. This is my true journey.
