Today we’d like to introduce you to Krissy Arora.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Krissy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After working in the fashion industry for twelve years behind a desk punching numbers, I knew I needed a change. I started taking night classes at Otis College in areas that were more of interest to me. I found that my passion was in home decor and with my wholesale background doing the buying of home and gift items came naturally to me. Today, we are constantly adding more new products, pop-ups, workshops, and events at the store.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not! The biggest one that I was not prepared for while owning a business was when my father passed away last year and having to let go of an employee at the same time so having less coverage for the store while grieving the loss of my dad. It definitely affected my business and in having a store one must show up and smile no matter what the circumstances are which was extremely difficult for me to do. Other struggles have been finding trustworthy employees and constantly brainstorming even in the slow times of retail. There are always ebbs and flows in retail and it’s good to prepare for them and have a cushion. Not an easy thing to do.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Arora Boheme story. Tell us more about the business.
Arora Boheme is a unique home accessory and gift store for those who want to curate a beautiful home. Arora is my last name and Boheme is the style of my store. The twist to my store that makes it different is the DIY section where we sell a paint line for furniture and wall effects that requires no sanding or priming and is adhesive to most any surface. We also hold workshops from floral design, furniture painting, and much more! We also have a huge library catalog that holds all the drawer knobs and handles that we sell, we definitely have a little of everything and that’s what sets us apart and I’m proud of! I
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
The good luck part is that I am VERY lucky, I had my dad as my mentor who was an entrepreneur my whole life. He guided me and was an amazing mentor that I was very lucky to have! I also think I’m pretty lucky to have found the spot in Atwater Village where my store is located. The bad luck, well, I don’t focus on the negative, so I’ll leave that there.
