Meet Aristotle Montanez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aristotle Montanez.

Aristotle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a child, I loved to draw, so much so, that I would get in trouble just to be sent to the principal’s office and sketch. Instead of being sent to the principal’s office one day, I was sent home and then directly to my room. In my boredom, checking out my favorite Lebron shoes, I discovered a DVD in the shoe box. It was the design process of Nike’s, Jason Petrie. I found my passion that day. And my dream career.

I have been chasing this dream since high school when I was accepted into the Pensole Intensive at MIT. This program is what brought me to Art Center. As a designer, I want to guide the emotional experience from start to finish, concept generation all the way to marketing strategies.

Has it been a smooth road?
Coming from NJ/NY at the age of 17, living in California all by myself, presented many challenges fast-forwarding very rapidly into adulthood learning how to be able to handle responsibilities and maintaining a career as a full-time design student presented many challenges. However, none the less your passion and heart will help you pave those bumpy roads

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I currently work for an up and coming footwear brand based in Venice California. No. One Footwear is where we construct and handmake footwear in our atelier here in Venice.

I am currently the junior footwear designer and bespoke consultant. What sets us apart from most companies is that we work on our schedule set our own trends and do whatever we want! We are a small team that pushes each other to be the best thinkers innovators and makers in the world.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I define success by understanding your failures and how you have succeeded in your learning experiences from your failures and obstacles. For me “Failing fast and Failing often” is one of my mottos that have been passed down to me from colleagues and friends in the industry. I think when you push yourself and constantly try new things and you may not succeed at first you begin to learn the values of what it takes to succeed and you can apply them how you may feel fit in-order to succeed.
