Meet Arielle Mooring of Makeup Artistry by Arielle in Worldwide

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arielle Mooring.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Arielle. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Like so many others, my overall love of art brought me to makeup. The process of transforming a person or myself with lashes, face paint, or glitter is one that I’ll never tire of.

One day, a friend asked me to do her makeup for an event, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Seeing not only the obvious physical change in a person but the change in their spirit and confidence is what keeps me motivated to keep doing what I’m doing.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to work with some amazing designers, artists, producers, and filmmakers in just about every arena like fashion shows, photo shoots, TV, etc. and its some of the most fulfilling work I could do.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not! Lol! I’ve had to deal with being fired quite unceremoniously, having to move out of my apartment with my daughter who was five months old at the time, struggling to find work, being cheated out of money that I know I deserved. I’ve dealt with people telling me I wasn’t worth the prices I was charging and all kinds of naysayers.

The hardest challenge for me, however, was having to move back to my childhood home to help care for my mother with Alzheimer’s after my oldest brother had a stoke. The stress of my life was such that it eventually led to my divorce. But with my faith, therapy and an incredible circle of friends and loved ones, I was able to conquer all of my hardships.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Well, I am an artist first and foremost. I do freelance graphic design and makeup primarily. With regard to makeup, however, I think I’m best known for my fantasy looks, my sci-fi character recreations and playful avant-garde approach to my work.

My goal as a brand to always make sure I’m well rounded in regards to what kind of makeup I can do and show that as a black woman, we are multifaceted and bring an appeal to EVERYTHING we touch.

As one of the most influential and powerful groups of people, I seek to empower black women and men by consistently putting out positive imagery of us in as many arenas as I can, especially in makeup and art.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I definitely think its a good place for a business like mine. This is where tons of people are trying to move so they can have more access to opportunities/people in the industry.

I do think there is something to be said however for being able to adapt to whatever environment you’re in. My recommendations to anyone just starting out is to make sure you have a strong sense of self and what you’re about.

People will try to tell you anything, and it’s up to you to be able to discern if it’s real or not. Study the business side of each and every endeavor you take and expect to make mistakes. “Failing forward” is a plus.
