Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Nuno.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Someone Somewhere was started by a group of friends who used to go volunteering to various indigenous communities. We were shocked by the levels of poverty but also inspired by the people and their desire to improve their lives.
We realized that most women were artisans, but that they really struggled to have a steady income from their work. Their products weren’t matching what the world was wearing, and they weren’t able to reach to people who actually valued their creations.
We asked ourselves: what if we combined their traditional handcrafts with contemporary products? And Someone Somewhere was born.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a very bumpy road, but totally worth it. Financing, production, inventory and a lot of other elements have been hard to get right, but with an amazing team and a lot of perseverance, we have been able to overcome most of the obstacles.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a digitally native apparel brand that combines traditional handcrafts with products and channels for the modern world.
We work with hundreds of artisans from the poorest states of Mexico, who are able to increase their income up to three times by joining us. You can learn more at someonesomewhere.com.
What were you like growing up?
I was very curious and adventurous, and always got sad when I saw injustice.
