Meet Anson Lam of Lamography in Burbank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anson Lam.

Anson, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a freelance photographer that specializes in Ocean, Surf, and Lifestyle Photography. I was born and raised on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii and had recently moved to the Los Angeles area to pursue a professional career in Marketing and to take my photography to new places. My passion for photography began when my father passed down a film camera when I was 13 years old in 2005 and had a childhood dream of becoming a NatGeo Photographer. Most of my knowledge of photography was self-taught and some with the help of my dad and other photographers I had met and worked with through the years. I have taken on many projects with clients and was given opportunities to shoot for companies like United Airlines.

I also have a love for the ocean being surrounded by beautiful beaches back home. I was happy to discover a way to combine my passion for photography and love of the ocean together. The feeling of treading water with nothing but fins on your feet and camera in one hand is therapeutic for me, whether it’s out shooting shore break or in a photoshoot with a client, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Moving here to the Los Angeles area has been the best decision of my life, despite the struggles. I had recently graduated with my bachelor’s degree in marketing and losing my position at my day job due to COVID-19 was heartbreaking. But I remained optimistic and decided to uproot myself in search of better opportunities. The biggest struggle so far with it all is adjusting and acquiring new clientele in a new demographic.

Please tell us about Lamography.
I am a part-time freelance photographer that specializes in Ocean, surf, and lifestyle photography. I do photoshoots from your typical portraits to portraits in the water. I’m known for my cinematic style through angles and turning your ordinary scene into something dramatic that captures emotions. I am most proud of my journey to where I am at today. I believe my personality is what sets me apart from the rest.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
There is nothing I would have done differently. I trust in the process and take every failure as an opportunity to better myself. The struggles have contributed to my success.
