Meet Annie Elizabeth of Annie Elizabeth Photography in Los Feliz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Elizabeth.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have loved photography since I took a photography class in collage at DePaul University in 2010. Since then I considered it a hobby and a passion. Then almost 2 years ago I decided to turn my passion for photography into a business and started Annie Elizabeth Photography in 2017. I began by working with other photographers as their second shooter and found my passion for wedding photography specifically. I now shoot weddings all around California and love every second of it. I hope to take my wedding photography international in the near future and travel around the world shooting weddings. I love photography and I love love.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a mostly smooth road, save for a few struggles. The main obstacles that I have faced are linked to being a woman photographer. I have had a few prospective clients not take me seriously because I am a woman and I think people are still used to photography being a male job. The other obstacle I have faced is other photographers in the industry being competitive and not wanting me to succeed because they felt threatened or like my success would take work away from them. I think that there is plenty of room in the photography industry for many many talented people to co-exist together and build each other up rather then tear each other down. I think wedding photography is such a personal thing and clients know exactly what they want that there really isn’t or shouldn’t be any competition amongst photographers. When I lose out on a job to another photographer I it doesn’t bother me too much because I know in my heart that I just wasn’t the right artist for that particular job. Of course I want to shoot as many weddings as I possibly can and its never fun to hear someone say that they are going to work with another photographer but I am comforted by the thought that its art and its very personal and subjective. There is also the struggle of when you first start out and you need to buy new lens’, camera’s, advertising your business, etc. and you haven’t made any money yet. I am still building up my equipment and online presence and it is a constant struggle to do that when I need to use every dime I make to pay my rent etc.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am known for wedding and love story photography. I specialize in capturing candid moments. I have a very artistic and non-traditional approach to photography. I take pictures that illicit a feeling and seem alive. My photos are known to have a lot of movement in them. Whether its a crashing wave or a flowing dress my photography has a cinematic and moving quality to it. I am also known for my ability to manipulate natural light in a unique and interesting way. Every time I pick up my camera no matter what the job is I create art and that’s what sets me apart from other photographers.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes. Los Angeles is the perfect city for a photographer who is just starting out. There are many many opportunities here for photographers. I hope to continue to take advantage of more of them!
