Meet Annie Carolin of Flite in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Carolin.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Annie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began my career in digital media, producing online and interactive content for the film and television studios. While it was so valuable to be at the forefront of these new technologies 15 years ago, I found myself starving for more creativity and a more direct connection with the people I was creating for. My good friend and colleague, Summer Simmons of Hullabaloo Event Design, who at the time worked as a producer at the same company, walked into my office and said she had a dream that I should start doing invitations. She had no idea of my secret obsession with paper, color and texture. I took it as a sign, and with the design of my own wedding invitations in 2007, a new career was born. It quickly became the best job I’ve ever had, and it’s great to be able to say that I’ve never looked back.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Part of the journey of owning your own business is getting better and better at flattening out bumps along the way. With creative work, there is always a balancing act between honoring a budget, while simultaneously allowing the creativity to flow. Luckily, we are extremely good at that! A bargain shopper myself, I take my client’s dollar as far as it can go. We always know how to maintain the integrity of a creative idea, while knowing how to source materials properly to stay within budget.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Flite story. Tell us more about the business.
FLITE is a custom studio specializing in branding events and creating products that will carry that brand throughout. We produce any design details that you might want to include in your event, from the Save the Date and invitations, to the escort cards, menus and table numbers.

We get to know our clients and get a very good understanding of what they want their event to look and feel like, and how they want their guests to react when they receive the very first news of the special day. What sets us apart is our undying effort to be thoughtful in every last decision we make. Staying true to the narrative of the event is what drives our design direction. Nothing is haphazard, and even the smallest detail will help tell the story.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Undoubtedly, I would have to say the amazing people you meet along the way. I have been blessed with the world’s most wonderful clients. These aren’t just people that have been easy to work with and have entrusted me fully with designing their special products for them, but really good people in general. The type of people that remind you of the goodness in humanity. I am blessed for that reason. Or just very lucky!
