Meet Anna Pfleghaar of CocoCanna in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Pfleghaar.

Anna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My start was in the beauty world, as a protege of beauty and skincare icon, Charlotte Tilbury (MBE). As a member of the Tilbury pro team, I traveled around North America and worked with top celebrity and model clientele. I have also worked on major advertising campaigns for brands like Nike, as well as editorial shoots for top fashion and culture publications such as Refinery29C MagazineEssieGirlBossRevolveVogue and Good Housekeeping.

The more I witnessed the products my clients were using, the more I realized these products were not only outrageously priced, but they were also doing more harm than good to their internal and external health. I started to make my clients aware of this. They took to it well, and started snapping pictures of product ingredient lists at their favorite beauty boutiques and texting them to me so I could give them my two cents on potential purchases. Eight times out of 10, I told them to ditch the product, and I would then suggest something else. Even for a beauty expert, there were not many products to suggest that could give them the skincare results they wanted.

After a couple of years of this, I realized there was a huge hole in the market for clean beauty products with anti-aging properties that were also visually appealing. When I discovered CBD, I knew it could solve these issues, due to its anti-aging, anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory benefits. With my wealth of experience and deep understanding of skincare and dermal dynamics, I knew I could contribute a unique perspective when it comes to exploiting CBD’s many uses and strengths in a topical form. So, I began creating what now is, CocoCanna.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle I’ve faced so far is educating consumers. The CBD world can look like a mirage of strobe lights all promising to give you the fountain of youth, but which ones are being sourced properly, and how much CBD does one actually need? We really have to believe in what we’re doing in the cannabis space, and be here for the consumer, because it’s such a powerful alternative to Big Pharma. Wellness should be at the forefront of innovation in every way, and we are fighting a long history of complacent behavior when it comes to toxic ingredients.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Made in Los Angeles with organic certified, cold pressed, unrefined virgin coconut oil from the Philippines, and triple lab tested hemp oil extracts, CocoCanna elegantly raises the traditional body butter standard. By blending in the hemp oil extracts, the hydration normally derived from coconut butter is amplified considerably, delivering powerful moisture and healing properties even with a small amount of product. CocoCanna can help to firm skin, reduce inflammation, and is an excellent pore minimizer and agent against acne (it helps regulate sebaceous glands). The infusion of hemp oil also provides muscle tension relief, and increases collagen production, helping your skin feel younger and healthier.

It’s a simple solution to a multitude of issues… you can literally use it for just about everything. Coconut and CBD are actually a molecular match made in heaven, creating the perfect delivery system in CocoCanna. Clients have told me it has helped their sun spots nearly vanish; it has replaced steroid creams for skin conditions; it relieves chronic inflammation and pain, and their stretch marks have considerably faded. We can’t be happier with the results and are in the process of expansion, so stay tuned!

What I’m most proud of in our company is not only our responsibly sourced ingredients that produce incredible results, but our mission to support a body positive, inclusive environment. Going against the traditional beauty standard has been so important to me since day one of starting CocoCanna. I’m over perfection. The world desperately needs more real women.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles has a beautiful and booming cannabis scene right now. It’s a historical time to be here, and the sense of community in the cannabis world has grown substantially. I think it’s important to immerse yourself in the cannabis space for so many reasons. Educating yourself on the social injustices and racial inequalities that are still prevalent in the world are also crucially important things to be mindful of. I think that legitimate resources and contacts can be easier to obtain in Los Angeles, where cannabis as whole is legal. You don’t have to move to LA though. I do consulting, and have clients from all over the world. You just have to find someone you trust to work with, someone who understands and supports your vision.
