Today we’d like to introduce you to Racquel Honoré.
Racquel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I ‘ve been doing what I do- vintage clothing and jewelry design for over 20 years. It started as a love for both in high school, Always separately. I always loved thrifting and wearing vintage. I also always loved making things, unique creations and crafts. The love of both continued through college but it was always more just for fun. Never really thought of them as careers. I went on a different route for college studies., filmmaking and communications. Somehow here I am! Back at it for many years now.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha the road… Well, I think part of the issue for me is I am super creative with strong interests and talents in different areas, so the idea of sticking with one thing for a long time or forever is not how I roll. I go through cycles if you will. Vintage. Jewelry. Fashion Styling. Acting. I am lucky I get to combine it all now into this company ANKH.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Ankh By Racquel is a curated collection of vintage clothing and accessories and handmade and repurposed jewelry. I present my collections at pop-ups and markets such as Silver Lake Farmers Market, online, via Instagram and by appointment.
I am also a stylist so I love getting to put together looks for my photoshoots and for others. I shoot my gorgeous daughter June a lot! She has been a part of my company since she was little. She’s a vintage fanatic too of course.
I specialize in funkier pieces that make a statement but very wearable. Classic with an edge. I’m also known for my jewelry designs. Lots of chains, mixed metals and one-of-a-kind jewelry.
I’m most proud my business is paying my bills lol but also that it has staying power over the years. I’m happy people support and appreciate what I’m doing and how I do it and that they really use and love what they acquire. Proud to be a sustainable company and have recycled products. When I sell to the locals at the Farmer’s market, they are being more environmentally friendly when they walk to market, get their recycled stuff and support local businesses. How great is that?!
What sets me apart from others? The combination of the handmade jewelry and vintage together is my signature and it brings the old and new together in a modern way.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’d have to say it was pretty cool having Lenny Kravitz rocking my designs on tour a few years back. He’s such an icon and all around cool dude and he was on stage rocking out in Ankh jewelry. Yeah loved it!
