Meet Ani Shaboyan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ani Shaboyan.

Hi Ani, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey to this point in my career has been everything all at once. It has been exciting, nerve-wrecking, draining, and yet extremely empowering. I am in fact still on this journey to discovering myself and seeing myself in the world of makeup. I’m in fact not a professionally trained /educated makeup artist, on the contrary, my educational background is in public health. I think it took me some time to accept myself as the artist that I am – I am in constant need to express myself through art. Makeup has been the most sincere outlet for me because it allows me to connect with my clients, encourage them to feel their best self and create everlasting memories. My studio is based in Glendale, CA – and is a central place where I interact with people from all walks of life. I become an integral part of their event whether that be a wedding, engagement, prom, or photoshoots. I love that my clients trust me to provide them the utmost customer service and attention to detail. To say that they are simply clients would be a lie, my clients have turned into friends who I regularly check in with and engage with. I guess this is where they say that when you love what you do, it no longer feels like work. My journey to this point in time may or may not be unique, but it is definitely a creation of mine. I look forward to expanding my business beyond Los Angeles to offer more remote services beyond makeup.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have been multiple struggles along the way. I think just like any new business owner in a client-based industry, the simple fact of trying to convince others of your work and value has been an interesting one. When you’re a service based industry I think half the battle is ensuring that people have your trust. It really has a lot to do with trust, your clients must trust in you and the work you do. This experience has shaped me to be a better person in general, let alone a better artist.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a makeup artist and I specialize in enhancing your natural beauty within. A lot of my clients come to me because they enjoy the natural and soft glam looks I’ve created in past years. They also love that I am able to showcase all my different clients from a variety of races and ethnicities. That’s something that is constantly mentioned by new clients. They tell me that they noticed on my Instagram (@byanie__x) all different types of women and that’s what caught their eye. This makes me happy and proud because as an artist, it’s so important to have a variety of canvasses. I’m also transparent when it comes to my services, I will let my clients know what I think would match their facial features and what alternatives exist.
