Today we’d like to introduce you to Ani Harutyunyan.
Ani, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Armenia and lived there with my family until the age of 15. After that, I traveled to London to study Business Management for five years and those years had a major impact on the development of my personality. I made a very important decision to never work for big corporations and that I would try to find my own path in the professional industry.
After moving back, I spent some time researching and studying and finally ten years ago, I founded my first bakery business in Yerevan, Armenia. The idea was to bake sourdough bread and pastries without artificial additives. Over the years, the business has expanded and I have opened three cafe/bakery shops around the town and expanded our team to 40 people.
Our main goal was to create a friendly and homey atmosphere so our customers would feel like they walk into a friend’s house when visiting CRUMBS bakery.
Currently, the business runs without my intervention as the team has all the tools and the knowledge to run it.
Two years ago, I have moved to Los Angeles and recently have decided to continue to what I love to do and I have started baking again. I have received immense amount of support from my neighbors and that pushed me forward to start planning my new bakery business. I am very excited to say that I will be moving to the bakery very soon.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Challenges are inevitable, you face them daily and that is part of the process. I believe they made me stronger and more productive in my decision making processes. Overall my journey has been smooth thanks to the support from friends, family and customers…
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My bakery is called Baketo and it specializes in sourdough bread, pastry and keto friendly goodies… I believe that homemade, tasty food that is made with love and care unites people. Food is not just a fuel for our bodies, it can improve our mood by its taste, texture, smell and presentation. Therefore the idea of Baketo is to bake goods that will bring joy and not simply satisfy hunger.
What were you like growing up?
I was very connected to nature. I loved hiking, climbing on trees, riding horses and sleeping on hay at a barn. During my summer vacations at a countryside house, I loved reading adventure novels and planning my perfect trip around the world.
Growing up, I had visited numerous classes trying to find that one thing that would interest me the most. I have tried dancing, karate, drawing, crochet, basketball, tennis and the list goes on. Now, after so many years, I know that I don’t necessarily have to concentrate and be good only at one thing. I can have numerous interests and indulge myself and experience them all.
