Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelo Padin.
Angelo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. Joined the Marine Corps when I was 19 years old, got married, and had a bright career until I deployed. Wife ended up cheating on me on deployment, which leads to three suicide attempts, depression, and anxiety issues. Ended up getting administratively separated from the Marine Crops and Divorced at 22 years old.
After being kicked out of the Marine Corps, I moved back home to start over. Things only got worse as I refused to deal with my issues and just self-medicated, ended up homeless, jobless, and hopeless. When I hit rock bottom, I was faced with two decisions- stay a victim of my circumstances or use them to fuel me to greatness, I chose the latter. I reinvented myself as “Ambitious Angelo”, the best version of myself that I knew I had inside me. Started working for corporate America and quickly realized that it wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. As the rise of social media in 2014, I created my first business called “WooCutz”, a brand focused on promoting the Beauty & Barber industry. My intent with WooCutz is to elevate the industry and connect consumers to the best the Barbers & Beauty professionals across America through a mobile app.
I moved to LA last October to take the brand to the next level. Mobile apps still are very expensive to create and market nowadays with it being such a saturated market. I bought a one-way ticket from Boston to LA, with nowhere to live or no solid plan. I’ve networked with my followers on IG, slept on floors, couches, air mattresses, and hospital beds to survive out here. Thankfully one of my followers in Nov donated a used car to me, which is now my house. I sleep in my car and work multiple side hustles as I work on my long term goal in my free time.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not! Self-doubt I would say has been the biggest obstacle. Constantly thinking I’m lost or not good enough to make it happen. The loneliness at times can be overwhelming as well since I don’t have too many friends out here. Being homeless I don’t look as an obstacle, I look at it as an opportunity.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with WooCutz – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
WooCutz has three pillars- media, technology, and events. In 2016 I started interviewing Barbers/Stylist to get their personal story and latest trends/products in the industry. I also partner with events to host and create content. The mobile app is still pending funding for development, but it will happen!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Ultimately WooCutz isn’t about making $ but about making a difference. I implore Barbers and Stylist to focus on creating an impact in their communities. The events and media is a medium to help get that message out, the $ we will make form the app will help fund community-focused events.
