Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Natalie.
Angelica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was a little girl, I consistently had people asking me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I could never give them the answer they were looking for, so I would say “I don’t know yet.” What I really meant and wanted to say was that I could be anything I wanted to be. I learned that later in my life, and hold true to this day.
During my life, my sense of adventure and curiosity has taken me on many journeys, experiences, and places. Looking back on all these worthwhile moments in time, one of the most consistent things I carried around with me, was a camera. Whether it was my super cool Sidekick phone or my current Canon, the object I most dearly possessed had the ability to freeze a moment in time to be viewed now, or in the future.
I took that passion and started honing my knowledge and talent when I attended the New York Film Academy. A whole new world of technique opened up for me to implement in my craft, but what’s gotten me this far is seeing the moments most people miss and sharing those with the world.
Whether it’s a celebrity or a stranger on the side of the street, people interest me greatly. It brings me such joy communicating with someone, seeing them get comfortable and then capturing those moments when the bright life that is them is pouring out to be seen.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’d be quite a boring game if there weren’t bumps or unexpected turns along the way, wouldn’t it? Turning an art form into a viable business does take quite a push… many actually. In today’s age, it is so easy for someone to take a picture with their phone and label it art, and it may very well be.
But I was always trying to provide something different, something almost not tangible… I was in a constant battle with that concept and attitude until I realized one day, what they would be missing… was me. I brushed it all aside now with a whole new purpose in view.
Learning that point, I gained the ability to knock off stopping myself and reached out to new fields of entrepreneurs, mothers, business owners, etc. At one point when I first started my business, there was something I was completely terrified of doing… photographing portraits.
So I knew that that was exactly what I needed to concentrate on to push by any barriers I was experiencing. I started photographing portraits, jumping in head first, and today I specialize in giving people that experience where they say, “That’s ME?! I look so good!”
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Angelica Natalie Photo – what should we know?
Angelica Natalie Photo is an LA-based photography service that provides visual aesthetics to the world in many different fields. Because of my curious nature, I’ve often explored many different genres and styles that have brought me to where I am today.
I mostly work on headshots and lifestyle currently, but I am known to shoot bridal, products, album art, family + kids, anything and all that has to do with people and their interesting lives. I’ve photographed celebrities, actors, musicians, opinion leaders, and those have opened doors for me that I am really proud of.
As a model as well, I’ve worked with extremely talented photographers such as Tony Duran and Cliff Watts in the past, so I know what it feels like being in front of the camera. Those experiences taught me a lot of valuable lessons that I choose to implement on a daily basis when I’m photographing someone.
The success story that I get the most is that I make the person I’m shooting very comfortable, which is so crucial when it comes to capturing the agreed-upon vision.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
As an artist, I’m constantly communicating with the outside world, and I have to choose on a daily basis what that communication is going to be.
Whether it’s posting to Instagram or a conversation I’m having with my subject, I make sure to keep the communication on a very high aesthetic wavelength.
