Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Migliazza.
Angelica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m originally from Thunder Bay, ON-CANADA! I moved to LA when I was 17 and went to school at Loyola Marymount University. There I obtained my Degree in DANCE and made many connections to launch me into the industry. Quickly after graduation, I got my O.P.T visa and was able to stay in America. I realized being International and going after a career in the Performing Arts was not going to be easy but I decided it was worth it. I then got signed with Go 2 Talent Agency and began auditioning for jobs! My days consisted of training, auditioning and working any gigs that came my way. I then worked my way up and received my O-1 Artist Visa! This was a huge accomplishment and really showed me anything was possible. A year later I booked my first major job as a DANCER for the movie Descendants 3! The third sequel of a new Disney movie releasing this summer- Directed by Kenny Ortega. I currently am continuing to audition and book roles as Dancer and Choreographer in Los Angeles and enjoying the journey.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road but it’s been an adventurous one and I wouldn’t trade that any day. Being International has been a challenge but to me its actually been a blessing because it drove me to take ACTION which I believe to be the key ingredient to bridge the gap between your dreams and your reality. I had to fight to prove myself here and that lit a fire under me. Going for my Artist Visa (O-1) challenged me to dig for connections, put myself out there and most importantly believe in myself. I realized how much I really wanted this as well. On top of that, the struggle to book jobs, in general, is there as well but I’ve found a nice lane with acrobatic technique and have built my own lanes to go down. There’s no looking back from here.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a dancer here in Los Angeles. I am trained in all styles, but I’m specialized in acrobatics as well as hip hop and contemporary. I’m known for being upside down most of the time and have the ability adapt to different styles. I also am a Choreographer and have worked with many up and coming artists – creating dance movement to their music for live performances and music videos.
I’m most proud of my drive-I never want to stop learning/growing and I really want to continue down my own lane.
What sets me apart is my versatility, acrobatics and my ability as a choreographer to create and conceptualize a vision from just the song and turn it into a visual.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very determined and athletic. I come from a family of two older brothers and also a very musical family. I participated in many activities (piano, soccer, volleyball, ice skating, theater, alto sax, guitar, and basketball) and I also loved to be part of the school council as much as possible organizing events. I definitely was addicted to dance though and lived at my Dance studio (Dance Dynamics) and devoted all my time to learning the craft. So a lot of my childhood memories were either with my family or at my dance studio evolving.
