Meet Angel Lem of LEMeKNOW Podcast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Lem.

Angel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My podcast features musicians, artist, comedians and small business owners who I interview to find out what they do and why they do it. I am person who always wonders how people ended up doing what they do, and this inspired my podcast.

I noticed all the unrecognized talent coming out of my hometown, Wilmington, and I know how regardless of the effort put into their crafts, no recognition is given nor a spotlight to promote themselves. It could be that our city is somewhat unknown, has a reputation for crime, or because the artists and hustlers are new and don’t have the following on social media which others require to be featured on their platform.

Wilmington is the heart of the harbor, which means that everything you eat and wear passes through here to get to you. Yet, if you are asked where you are from and you say Wilmington, they don’t know. You have to say near Long Beach, or 3 exits before the 110 ends. The goal of the show is not only to shine a light on the talent coming from Wilmington but also to shine a light on the city that has made us who we are.

Though, I do focus on the people of Wilmington, my priority is to feature people that are working towards a goal, a dream, or something that they are very passionate about. So I reach out to anyone that I feel could benefit from some publicity. I also started this because I felt I had no purpose, I would live my life in the past.

Mostly my high school days. The should of, could have, would haves. I let old relationships dictate my self-worth. As a result, I secluded myself, had no emotional support became depressed and considered suicide. The show gave me a reason to talk to people and get to know people I would otherwise have never meet. The show gave me the purpose I needed when I felt purposeless.

This was honestly for myself, and I did not think it would be noticed. As I continue the show, I aim to show my guests that their talents and hard work are seen, to inform, inspire and entertain people.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been easy at all. I picked up podcasting not knowing how any of the equipment worked, what equipment I needed, or how to interview someone (some say I still don’t). I’ve been saying for a long time how I wanted to start a podcast, so I went on YouTube and learned how.

The struggle was real for a while, I bought programs that I thought I needed but did not know how to use them. I struggled with the sound for a long time, it took many trips to Guitar Center and friends that knew about the things I was having trouble with. I did not give up, I often wanted to quit, but somehow persevered.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about LEMeKNOW Podcast – what should we know?
LEMeKNOW Podcast is the show that caters to everyone’s taste ranging from political talk, the showcase of the arts (Painters, musician’s, comedians etc.) local news, food, and simply everyday life. My name is Angel Lem I am the one in charge. I am the host, engineer, booker, I do everything around the show.

I am very proud of the fact that this show started at zero. I literally had no previous education or knowledge of how to start or continue a podcast, zero followers or listeners and somehow people tell me that they found their favorite band throws this show.

Complete strangers contact me people from different parts of the US, and other countries are interested and my little show impacts them in some way.

What sets me apart from everyone else is that I am 100% inclusive. Every race, sex, and occupation is treated equally and represented to educate anyone that might have questions about someone or something that they might not be familiar with. I do the research, I feel that not many people do that.

The last thing that I want is for my guest to feel that they came and wasted their time because it transfers onto the interview. If they have a bad time then the listener will have a bad time as well.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
In order for you to be successful, and you need to be honest and upfront. People tend to know when you are being fake.

If you admit that you are wrong or that you don’t know something they will be more willing to explain and understand that your ignorance is not coming from a place of hate, it’s just lack of knowledge of something another key to success is to discuss not argue about issues or opinions. You are more likely to get along if you talk to a person not talk down to someone.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, it doesn’t mean it a fact. People view things differently so just hear them out you might find out you didn’t look at something.
