Meet Anesa Doyle of 8 the Plate in Huntington Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anesa Doyle.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and I started my career working at an autism center. I decided to move in a different direction with my career and shifted to academia and became a professor. One night, I was teaching my graduate level learners about the research that supports picky eating and the different strategies that includes.

I then came home to have dinner with my family. My daughter, who was five at the time, did not want to eat her own meal! As I was implementing the same strategies I was just teaching about, I realized there needed to be an easier solution! Thankfully my husband who is an aerospace engineer was able to put my ideas into a product and together we developed 8 the Plate!

Fast forward many long nights and countless hours later, we have a product that we are truly proud of! We continue to make a huge impact on so many families lives. Our inbox is filled with truly inspiring testimonies of parents who claim that 8 the Plate is a total game changer in their home. Their child who was once “the pickiest eater in the world” is now eating fruits and vegetables like it has always been in their food repertoire.

One parent even said, “What kind of voodoo magic did you put into this?” Short answer – Fun! We made a spinning plate that engages the child at the dinner table. Long answer – So much design and thought went into 8 the Plate to ensure that the parents do not have to think or stress come meal time! The goal at 8 the Plate is to create healthy habits for children while allowing the family to enjoy mealtimes together!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing worth having is ever a smooth ride! And let me tell you, it has definitely been a rollercoaster.

8 the Plate is a project that we are extremely passionate about, and we wanted to ensure that we kept 100% equity. This means we signed up for the emotional and financial rollercoaster ride of starting a business. We have also had to learn how to balance family, work, and building/growing a business! For the majority of this venture, my husband and I have been moonlighting it.

Meaning, we complete our day job all while ensuring that our two children’s needs are fulfilled. Once they were in bed for the night, then it is time to work on 8 the Plate. Once that became too much, my husband stepped away from his secure career in Rolls-Royce Aerospace to make sure that this project would successfully launch.

We also had issues with manufacturing that delayed our launch time. We hear this was pretty standard, but when you are completely funding a project, every single delay is critical. Although we have endured stress, we are still very confident in the decisions we made to have parts made in the USA and to support families in finding a healthier lifestyle.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with 8 the Plate – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Research has identified that 54% of children are picky eaters. With over half of the children’s population being faced with this issue, we felt that a better solution for every day parents needed to be developed. 8 the Plate is a children’s plate that spins inside of a clear cover.

Our product provides an engaging experience for kids during mealtime and reduces stress for parents! 8 the Plate was designed after researched principles to help increase food selectivity. Best of all- Our results speak for itself! Our website and social media are loaded with testimonies of children that have seen significant success since using 8 the Plate.

Our website also provides tips and tricks videos to support parents. We are not just a product but also a resource! We want our families to feel as if they have the tools to be successful as well. “Picky eaters are just ‘Adventurous Eaters’ in training!” Our resources will help these families get there.

Starting the beginning of the year, I will also be offering ‘Food Therapy Consultation’ services, and I will be doing speaking engagements. Helping families is something I am genuinely passionate about so offering my voice and services is a few more way that I can do that.

8 the Plate is bottom rack dishwasher safe and made in the USA. 8 the Plate comes in three different colors; Tickle me Pink, Gray Grace, and Hang Ten Teal.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As mentioned, I plan to start using my voice to educate families on this huge issue! I am on expert in my field, and I have knowledge of how to address it.

Furthermore, I have been in their shoes so I understand the daily struggles that this can bring! I intend on setting up speaking engagements and workshops.

I also plan to start conducting Food Therapy Consultation services. In regards to 8 the Plate, we have a few ideas up our sleeve. 🙂 You will have to follow along on our social media to see what those changes will be.
