Today we’d like to introduce you to Anel Parra.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a mother to four beautiful children ranging in ages from 6 to 19 – one boy, three girls – and I began my motherhood journey at the age of 15. I am a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army serving as a medical services platoon leader. I am an entrepreneur who has created Bold Ascension, an organization that empowers women to live their lives authentically and boldly. I have created the I am Bold, I Rise campaign – an annual calendar featuring inspiring women who have overcome adversity in their lives. I co-facilitate Bold Talks, a monthly gathering for survivors of trauma where we provide resources and guidance to healing. I am a SURVIVOR of domestic violence and lived in a toxic relationship for over ten years. I am all of these things because I have chosen to believe in myself, love myself, forgive and to make a difference in the lives of others. I know that God wants me to use my story to empower and inspire others, and that is why I stand before you today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not, but I think that is the beauty of it. Every detour, bump, dead end, has lead me to exactly the path that I need to be on. It was my biggest heartbreak that lead me to find my purpose. I grew up thinking heartache and struggle were normal, and it wasn’t until I began the healing journey that I learned we can choose a different life. We do not have to continue living a life that was written for us, we, God and you, can rewrite your own story. I have transcended all my pain into lessons such as being a teen mom, being a domestic violence victim, experiencing sexual abuse in my own family, being diagnosed with depression, experiencing sexism in the military.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Bold Ascension – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Bold Ascension is a faith-based women’s empowerment organization whose mission is to support women in rising above their circumstances and empowering them to boldly live as their authentic self by living as God created them to be.
That is done through faith-based coaching, workshops, podcasts, awareness campaigns and by connecting women to the resources they need to thrive.
Through the I am Bold, I Rise campaign, I have created a platform for women to share their powerful and transformational stories with the world. Sharing my own journey was both empowering and healing, and lead me to live a more purpose-driven life aligned with my passion for social justice issues and women’s empowerment.
I currently have a monthly podcast with each of the women from the I am Bold, I Rise campaign, detailing their stories of survival. The I am Bold, I Rise calendar is available for purchase throughout the year, with all funds supporting future events and programs.
Bold Talks is a monthly traveling workshop where I partner with other women to discuss important topics, and provide support and resources for domestic violence and sexual abuse survivors, along with the families that support them in their healing journey.
Bold Ascension holds an annual launch party, gathering all the women from the I am Bold, I Rise campaign to celebrate their powerful stories, raise awareness for partnering organizations that empower survivors, and holding panel discussions with inspirational individuals. With every single voice that is strengthened, comes transformation and empowerment, and I am grateful to be on this journey with them.
What me and my family went through was extremely painful. There was a choice for all of us to make – we could allow it to define us or we could rise above our circumstances and transform our experience into something that could inspire change in others. When I began to work on myself, I saw how important it was to take ownership of your life. For so long, I looked to others to fulfill me and make me happy – all along that power was within ME. My goal, whether I speak to one person or I stand in front of 100, is to help them realize that they can grow, change, inspire and empower others, too. No matter what has happened to you, it does not define you – it is only a small part of your story, not all that you are. Taking back your life is entirely within your grasp, you simply have to know that you are worth it. Never be afraid to ask for help, and always know that you are supported.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
For Bold Ascension, creating a 403c, and making it a resource center for families who have experienced sexual abuse or domestic violence and connect them to the resources they need. This center will bring awareness to the healing journey and all aspects of healthy living. The healing journey is often lengthy and involves many layers. It is such a personal and individual road. Inner work is required, and many people are afraid to talk about the more difficult and sometimes “ugly” side of personal development. The families will get connected to resources for financial planning, therapy, career guidance, education, spiritual, etc.
For myself, launch my book and marry my amazing fiance next May.
