Meet Andrew Hart of Follow Your Hart Home in San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Hart.

Andrew, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a real estate agent that services Los Angeles. Since Los Angeles is so vast, my main locations of specialty are the San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita Valley. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and established my roots, friendships, and fondest experiences here. I attended college in the Bay Area and it was there I knew I wanted to pursue real estate as a life long career. It was a college professor that I had who showed me the value that real estate has for individuals and families. I took this passion with me back to Los Angeles and began my career in 2016. There is so much information to digest when beginning and one of the biggest choices was going solo or joining a team. Since I spent a lot of time playing team sports like football, I felt a team was the best fit for me. Definitely was an excellent decision I made.

By joining the team, we are able to instill a culture making this challenging industry a collaborative effort. I started in my career focusing on first time home buyers. The reason I focused there was, I wanted to make a great first and lasting impression with the people that trusted me with one of the biggest financial decisions they will ever make. Plus with that lasting impression it will allow those people to refer all of their loved ones to my service. Starting out was rough as the experts say, you need at least six months of reserves to start and thrive in this industry. As predicted, I did not help my first family until six months after I started full time. I am so glad it was tough to start since this industry is always evolving and I always want to earn my keep. Being complacent is never an option.

Fast forward to three years of being a full time residential real estate professional, I know it will be my career forever. I am able to help families accomplish their real estate dreams, create long term wealth, and build a relationship of care and trust with them. I now also train and provide mentorship to new agents that join our team which feels amazing to give back. My specialties are still first time home buyers, working with ranch properties, and investors. Not to say my work has become easy, as this industry is always changing and is highly competitive. You have to understand setbacks will be a part of the journey. How you overcome them is what will separate you from the competition.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was definitely not a smooth road, and the road is still being paved. I would say the biggest obstacle was getting individuals, families, and clients trusting me with the process because of my age. Pursuing my career beginning at 23 years old, a lot of people that I was building trust with felt that my age would not be to their advantage. Whether they felt it was a lack of experience or if I did not care about their goals, it definitely was an obstacle.

Not having consistent income was an obstacle when I started. You only get paid when you help a family accomplish their real estate goal. Even though it was an obstacle at first it is a blessing now because your income is based on how hard you work every single day. Your actions today result in the income you make three months from now.

An obstacle at the beginning was so afraid to make mistakes. You have to make mistakes to grow and prosper but does feel very unnatural to make at first.

Please tell us about Follow Your Hart Home.
My business is called Follow Your Hart Home and it is associated with the company Randy Plaice & Associates of RE/MAX. I am a real estate professional that helps individuals and families buying, selling, and investing in residential real estate. I never limit myself from different types of business, but my most consistent types of clients are first time buyers, ranch properties, and working with investors. What I am most proud of is how I am able to build a relationship that lasts after the journey to homeownership is complete. People I serve usually become great advocates or even great friends of mine after we get the first chance to work together. I would say that is also what sets us apart. Really understanding and supporting our clients’ needs and interests. For example, I have a client that has a band and I have seen many of his shows live. Also, I make it a point to watch sports games with them when their favorite team is playing. I do view this career as another way of building friendships.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is how much time I was able to spend raising and caring for so many different kinds of animals. I grew up on a ranch so I was able to raise dogs, cats, horses, rodents, livestock, reptiles, and many more kinds of animals. They taught me so much responsibility and allowed me to build relationships with a multitude of ways.
