Meet Andre Marotti of Crateful in Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre Marotti.

Andre, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Born and raised in Italy, I then went to University at UCSB and got a Master in Physics & Oceanography. Upon my return to Italy I left the science field and decided instead to work in hospitality and entertainment. I opened and managed one of the most successful clubs in Rome, produced 14 feature films, various music albums, then I specialized in Visual Effects and Digital Pipeline producer and moved back to the US where, by pure chance, I met my partner Emanuele, who had left multiple successful businesses in Italy to come chase the American Dream. My wife Angela also had previous experience in the food business having managed a private Culinary School in Italy and in New York. Emanuele and I, together with our wives, immediately decided to join forces to open a food and hospitality related business. We studied the market and understood that we wanted to stay away from the traditional restaurant business and understood that the future lies in the meal delivery services, whether it is catering or a subscription prep meal delivery.

We raised some capital amongst friends and family and launched in fall 2015. The first year was quite tough because we had underestimated many of the challenges we faced, but with pure will and perseverance we managed to get through them all and are now doing very well in both of our business verticals (Catering and Meal Plan Delivery).

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not smooth all. We had to face many challenges as the initial capital we raised turned out to be insufficient for our project and we had to roll up our sleeves and do everything ourselves, from prepping to delivering food and everything in between.

Crateful has 2 business verticals based on the same infrastructure:

Meal Plan: Delicious meal programs designed to assist you in reaching your health and fitness goals. Designed by our Michelin Star Chef and celebrity Nutritionist, our meals are organic, fresh, locally sourced and delivered daily.

We take a lot of pride in the quality of our food, which is truly the main distinguishing feature of Crateful. We source the best ingredients and have a team of extremely talented chefs. On top of the outstanding food quality, for which we spare no cost, we are building a technological structure to make the ordering and managing processes more and more flexible, convenient and customizable for the client. Our customers can now buy a package of days and schedule their deliveries any time within a whole year, changing their plans and scheduled dates as they please, and they can select up to 48 food dislikes therefore making sure they only receive what they like.

Catering: founded by a Michelin star Chef who transferred her creativity, knowledge and passion to our local team of talented chefs, Crateful Catering’s signature is sophistication in every detail, customizing each event to the client’s need, taking pride in originality and uniqueness, always paired with the search for perfection.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
On a personal level, success is having a healthy and happy family. Being able to take them traveling around the world is my personal goal. In order to that, I need to achieve personal success and a comfortable level of wealth.
