Meet Anastasia Vavina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Vavina.

Hi Anastasia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started to get into loving all things fashion and beauty ever since my years of university. Mostly I loved to look at models’ makeup and hairstyles from fashion shows. The way artists implemented their work into looks that designers created for models was so fascinating to watch, so well-detailed and always looked differently from every basic makeup I’ve seen. But back then I was just a student at economic faculty which never thought about any art-wise career seriously. Only many years after, already working as an accountant in a logistics company for a long time, I realized that I was still into dreaming about fashion and makeup as a whole idea. That’s where the seed was planted.

From the 2018, still doing my office work, I started my side career as a makeup artist. I worked for model tests, private client photoshoots, and many other creative projects to built my portfolio. Things grew so fast and I was so driven by my new passion, that very soon I found myself working with well-known fashion brands and celebrities in my country. My work got published in Elle, Glamour, InStyle, Grazia to name a few. I used to work with international brands such as Nina Ricci, Casio, Burger King. Magazines could reach out to me to get my expert opinion on makeup and hair secrets and tips. Things were going so well that early in 2020 I finally quit my office work to fully dedicate myself to my new passion. Surely I don’t mention a lot of stress and sleepless nights I was going through while I was trying to juggle two of my jobs and building my career. But believe me, it was all worth it. So just a year after, in the spring 2021, I thought that I might be ready to grow internationally. That’s where I collected all of my work and papers for getting a work visa in US. That was a big deal for a foreigner like me and not everyone gets this visa if they apply. So-called ‘talent’ visas are very unique and there’s only a few who can get those according to their experience in arts. It was an unforgettable path and in a year I finally got my visa and moved to US this spring.

My new life and trip started from the photoshoot the very next day after I landed to NYC. I got a chance to meet new team and do creative makeup and hairstyle at the top of skyscrapers in Manhattan at the home studio of my new friend photographer. What a sweet memory it is now! Now I’m currently based in LA and already worked on my creative projects, got lucky to be a part of Louis Vuitton Cruise Show in San Diego, also I worked at Giorgio Armani Beauty launch of a new product and did some brands campaigns as well. Can’t wait to see what this beautiful city could bring to my life and career! Beyond grateful to be here in Los Angeles!

Has it been a smooth road? What challenges have you faced along the way?
Most challenging is to find a balance between work and life. Sometimes art workers need just to relax and let themselves to enjoy the world, but their passion for art is so big they simply forget how to do it. So when I found out how to stop for a moment and appreciate little things in life — this also helped me a lot in my career.

Who else deserves credit – have you had mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, advocates, clients or teammates that have played a big role in your success or the success of the business? If so –who are they and what role did they plan / how did they help.
Most of my mentors and supporters are my colleagues and photographers who always had a huge impact on me and always cheered me up in every step I take. Models that I worked with are also became my friends and we’ve done so much together.

How do you think about happiness?
As an artist, I am happy when my work finds its place in human hearts and they truly love it. It’s the most precious thing for any professional. Besides it, I love long inspiring walks on the beautiful streets or in the parks. Yummy food also makes me happy (LA restaurants are so cool and authentic, how can I not be happy).
