Meet Anastasia Gerber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Gerber.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Switzerland. Music has always been my greatest passion. But it wasn’t until a faithful Sunday afternoon two years ago that I decided to become a singer. Together with a pianist friend, we were improvising and singing on a public piano when suddenly, a random woman approached us. She said and I’ll never forget: I thought I didn’t have a heart anymore, but after hearing you sing, I realized I still have one, thank you young girl’’. These words have turned my entire life upside down. Ever since I’m on a mission to have a positive impact and reach the hearts of as many people as possible.

My latest release titled Like The Stars is the result of a Scandinavian – British – Swiss collaboration and I am extremely grateful because it got featured on very big international Spotify playlists with over 175k followers such as Gym Motivation 2020. Other playlists include: NRJ Hits 2020 | Hits Music Only, Bravo Hits 2020, A Star is Born, and many more. This is very special to me because I grew up listening to NRJ Hits or Bravo Hits and now hearing my own songs being played by them, what a great honour! My upcoming song titled Down will be released and available on all streaming platforms on the 18th of September. So, stay tuned.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thankfully life is full of ups and downs, that make it very exciting and worth living. There is an Asian proverb that says: failure is the mother of success. I firmly believe in this proverb because as a singer, I draw a lot of inspiration for my music from personal experiences but especially from setbacks. Even though setbacks hurt badly at first, over time they are like blessings in disguise. Because in order to overcome the pain, I write songs about the particular event and some of these songs end up being published.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m a singer-songwriter and a bit of an eternal fighter. Because my life has never been easy, I always have to stand for myself and find ways to overcome roadblocks. For example at school, they labeled me as the girl with learning difficulties and no hope for the future. However, I proved everyone wrong by working extremely hard for three years, eventually getting out of the downward spiral and qualified for the best school in our region. Another example is when I first started uploading my music on Instagram or Youtube, I got bullied at school for it. It was really hard to get through all that. But by finding inner peace, believing in yourself, taking action and ignoring the noise (and by singing Kelly Clarkson’s song: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger), you can free yourself from the invisible chains of societal pressure and achieve anything you set your mind to.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When you ask my parents they would say: Life with Nastenka is one big concert. Because they always knew if I wasn’t singing or playing the guitar, I must be sleeping. And indeed singing to my cat, family and friends – thereby keeping all the neighbors awake – has always made me happy. That’s why I promised myself to not allow this to just remain as a good old memory from childhood but a feeling to strive for throughout life.
