Meet Anastasia Charakidou

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Charakidou.

Anastasia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My parents say I was born over passionate about music but as far as I can remember, my first memory starts at the age of nine years old when my school’s music teacher told my parents “Anastasia is talented”. Feeling this children’s need of discovering the world, was what led me to start exploring the world of music. First, I took vocal lessons at the age of ten and being excited about everything, made me decide a few years later, to learn how to play instruments such as guitar and piano. Growing up and wanting to learn more and more, I found music my top priority. I think I was twelve when I suddenly realized music is my life’s dream. By that time I started my research about music seminars, workshops, studies, etc. while in the meantime I was performing at local music stages and venues to make money for my extra music classes. I was determined I wanted to create music and perform for the rest of my life even if I had to try hard to make it happen. Through my music path, one of the biggest challenges I had to deal with was being far from my family and friends.

At the age of 16, with my parent’s permission and always support, I moved to Athens, in Greece for my music studies at Fillipos Nakas Conservatory. A couple of months later, I received a scholarship from Berklee College of Music and since I decided to attend the five week program, I was sure, graduating from Berklee was my next goal and so moving to Boston, MA was my next step at the age of 18. Now, I am 22 years old, I have a Dual Degree in Performance and Songwriting from Berklee College of Music, I perform live as a solo artist since being into bands before made me want to try something new. Lately, I moved to L.A. for the first Single Release I’ve worked a lot the past months and I’m more than thrilled that I can now create and share my music.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like every other career path, I had to deal with ups and downs. There is a time that we need to make small or big sacrifices to go one more step closer to our dream. And when challenges come it’s up to us to overcome or take a good lesson from it. So one of the biggest challenges I had to deal with through this road, was being far from my family and friends. The distance was always a complicated situation for my life and that’s why it’s also been an inspiration for a few of my original songs. Expressing feelings in any way makes the soul heal and leads to self-improvement. Challenges, for me, were always welcome to overcome and make me a better version of myself. Nothing comes easy in life that’s why we always need to try our best.

Please tell us about your art.
Since I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a dual major degree in Performance and Songwriting I felt I wanted to spread my passion about music, so I worked as a Voice Instructor at School of Rock for talented children almost about a year while I was also teaching at private vocal lessons. Apart from that though, what I consider myself mostly is a performer and a solo artist who creates original music in Pop, Electro Pop styles and more. After all these studies, projects and songwriting experiences I had from collaborations with important people, really worth to mention Arcade Music, Izzy, Nick Martin and the Latin Grammy Award Winner, pianist Jesus Molina. Songwriting was one of the things I decided to learn through my music path since It became my way to express feelings and wanders about our world. One of my favorite songwriting experiences is Kara DioGuardi Songwriting Camp at Power Station NYC that I had the honor to be selected to participate and work with the well known as a judge for the show “American Idol” and Grammy Award Winner, Kara DioGuardi. About my passion to perform everything started from a young age when I was performing at events, local concerts at my Hometown and other festival stages. As I was growing up I had the luck to perform at The Berklee Commencement Concert sharing the stage with legendary artists as Esperanza Spalding , also at Hard Rock Café and at other Boston venues, recitals and Night Clubs like Paradiso, famous for Dj Alesso, Steve Angelo and other artist’s performances there. Meeting people with the same love about music and creating music together, is what I always dreamed to do.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As for the latest news, I am soon releasing my Single “Independently Me”. I’m also planning to release an EP on the new year since that’s one of the reasons I recently moved to LA along with the collaboration with Dj Nick Martin and a tour during the summer which is now in progress. A few days ago, I completed a recording session for two soundtracks for IMC Video Games. I am always open to different types of recordings and collaborations such as the cover of “When You Believe”- by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, we recently released on our social media with my always mentor Mrs.Nichelle Mungo, also known as a multi year Grammy Award Educator. More good things are coming and I’m super excited and thankful to everyone who supports me and believes in my music.
