Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Wolkove.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Bobkat Babkas was born when lockdown started in March. I had yeast a friend gave me to keep me busy. I decided to start gifting my friends, my babkas in an effort to keep us all happy. It soon turned into request after request. I gave my dear friend Meri Cherry a babka and she posted about it on Instagram. I woke up the next morning to a full inbox! I had so many emails asking how to purchase one. I quickly had to pivot to selling them. I had a logo I had been working on for a different company and it just worked. Suddenly I knew what the logo was destined for all along. Now I’m making babkas three days a week! This has been a dream come true for me and I hope to have a Babka/Coffee shop in Encino soon.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My babka business has grown organically. I have tried not to rush to the next step too quickly. My next step is a brick and mortar and I’m ready for the challenges that brings, which I’m guessing will be plenty.
Bobkat Babkas – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bobkat Babkas are smaller than average babkas that are ferociously delicious!!! I’m known for my classic chocolate and cinnamon flavors, and also my more unique flavors like Catfetti which is a cream cheese frosting and sprinkles filled babka. They’re made in small batches so they get my full attention. I’m known for my ridiculous cat puns and mini bobkat bites.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m so proud of how much growth I’ve had in such a short amount of time. This took off faster than I could have imagined. I love my customers and having such a loyal following. If you buy one expect to make it a regular occurrence. Most people become regulars. I’m also so excited by the number of kids that now love babka. I’m bringing babkas to the next generation.
