Meet Amy Smith of ArtbyColorscape in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Smith.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Amy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in New Jersey but have been living in Los Angeles for 13 years. I found my inspiration in this town. I started my creative journey learning the basics of Photoshop and developing a love for cityscapes. I was always interested in painting and photography but I really was able to have fun with that program. My friends and I would show off our work at different places around the city. I ended up going to a portfolio review I found out about and that really changed my direction. I was painting but this collage technique really stood out and my mentor helped me evolve. I am self-educated, so I’m comfortable with constructive criticism. From there, I did small group shows playing around with this new style and I’ve developed it ever since. I’ve done commission work, I’ve rented my work out to television and films, and show in galleries all around the city.

Has it been a smooth road?
There are definitely struggles. Mine is mostly time. I try to manage my time to focus as much as possible but sometimes I don’t leave any time for other things. I’ll be painting or be working on a piece during holidays, weekends, you name it. But, hard work pays off.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am an artist and social entrepreneur. I am known for a contemporary collage style with street art inspiration. My work expresses empowerment, love, and strength. I am proud that I’m able to incorporate positive messages with my art and contribute to causes I care about through donating money, artwork, or my time.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
In my experience, Los Angeles has only been a positive experience for me and my business. The amount of creativity and opportunity here is abundant. People are excited to collaborate and the city is always putting on events. It’s a great place to be.
