Meet Amie Russ of Larue’s Place

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amie Russ.

Hi Amie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I launched Larue’s Place in March of 2021. Larue’s Place skincare began for a few different reasons. I had a hard time finding natural products that helped with my hyperpigmentation and acne scarring from having to wear masks. My partner has eczema and his conditioned worsened since the start of the pandemic. My teenage daughter has a mild case of acne and dry skin.

Another motivation for starting my business is because I needed another source of income. It’s been hard for me to find a job in the field I got my degree in which is cyber security, and I couldn’t find a part-time job that had reasonable pay.

We initially started off with four soap bars. We now have soap bars, face washes, body oils, face oils, beard oils, body butters, body lotions, and body washes. We will soon have all-natural shampoo and conditioner for pets.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The main struggles have been branding myself and marketing to wider audience. When I first launched, I was only selling to friends, family, and to people my friends or family referred. I applied to be a vendor at different flea markets but I wouldn’t get accepted because they had too many applicants and/or didn’t have a big enough social following. Luckily we have been able to market and sell to people outside of our inner circle, but it’s been a struggle reaching a wider audience.

As you know, we’re big fans of Larue’s Place. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a black-owned small business that launched in March of 2021. We’re dedicated to providing our customers the best all natural skincare products that will leave their skin feeling moisturized and refreshed. We use vegan, organic, and all natural ingredients to ensure our customers get top-quality products. Our unique blend of oils that we infuse ourselves sets us apart from other skincare companies. Our products are aimed towards those who have skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, hyperpigmentation, dry skin, etc.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
“Success isn’t about how much money you make. It’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.” — Michelle Obama
