Meet Amber Kekich of Satellite Crew in Leimert Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Kekich.

Amber, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born on a dark foggy night… jk I came to LA to be a clothing designer, after working for a couple denim companies I started my own line called AGAIN. I loved what I did, but like everything else, my passion for the industry started to fade.

I wanted to focus on things that my heart grew towards, and create more feelings then objects. I hate being subjected to one profession and think it is possible to expand your mind and be challenged in many projects. I worked really hard in order to make my hobbies my profession and following my heart. Now I focus mostly on creating visual narratives, orchestrating things that are visually stimulating, content that is long lasting. I tell stories through concept design, video creation, direction and editing, and photography. I have gotten to where I am by taking risks, a lot of them, and I still have many more to take and far more to grow.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
A smooth road, straight downhill, only to meet a valley and head uphill. Then hit a Plateau then down then up, let’s say rolling smooth roads, with a lot of bumps but great shocks in my ride. It is always a struggle to find what it is that makes your heart happy, something that makes you jump out of bed early. I, fortunately, knew what I wanted to do when I was young

It was hard running a company, the ups met the downs, closing my company of eight years was hard, but things change. It was a struggle to define what it is that I wanted next and hard to leave something that works but doesn’t ignite you. It’s hard to be creative when you need to think about money, it’s hard to put yourself out there, but one thing I do know, never stop following what makes you happy.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Satellite Crew story. Tell us more about your work.
Satellite Crew is a creative collective. That being said I am surrounded by all kinds of extremely talented artists, so I made a platform for us to have, a place where people can come if they want to see something come to life through our eyes. We have artists that do but are not limited to photography, sketching, painting, directing and graphics. We are known for being a one-stop-shop of creativity. We work together on big jobs to fill all the rolls so every position is filled by a creative. We are known for accelerating ideas, storytelling, producing, and shooting photos and videos for musicians, brands and products.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by beautiful people, for having a supportive family. Luck meets hustle.
