Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Shay.
Amber, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up loving music. It quickly became a part of my life. I would walk home after school and turn on MTV. I was inspired by smashing pumpkins, nirvana, hole, the wipers, Stevie Nicks, garbage, and Veruca Salt. I knew I had to learn to play. My life has never been the same since.
No matter what happens, music is the mainstay. I am happily married to a gorgeous guitar player who is as sweet as he is talented. We have a record coming out and want to tour everywhere.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Lots of struggles. Lots of trials and tribulations. I was never the girl would test the waters. I dived right in, for the good or bad. I have internal scars to show for it. My songs come from pain and real experiences.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am the frontwoman and songwriter. I sing the songs and play rhythm guitar. I am proud of what my husband has added musically. He is a genius and has brought the music to another level. We are recording in the studio in Austin, Texas. It’s called “Barebones & Microphones”.
Steve Sussman signed us for this first record, and now manages us. He co owns a record company called “Visionary Noise” records.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Both have played their roles equally. Some would say I don’t deserve a record deal. That I haven’t paid my dues. I know Clint and I paid heavily. It took hard things to create these songs. We stand behind them and we will only continue to get better and better.
