Meet Amanda De Leon of Women Networking in Photography in Greater Los Angeles Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda De Leon.

Amanda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been modeling professionally since 2013. Originally from Kailua Kona, Hawai’i and I am passionate about traveling, mermaids, fashion, food, women empowerment and modeling. Always happy to work with photographers, stylists, designers and other models of all skill levels. Priding myself on kindness, working well with others and being a very versatile model that has does commercial, short film, fashion, editorial, cosplay, pinup, runway, beauty, lifestyle, hair, fine art and travel modeling. Some of my accomplishments are; being published in an over 100 magazines, including Retro Lovely, Elan Vital, Fused, Ellegant, Top Hat, Cosplay Realm, So Scottsdale, the covers of Best of the West and Beautiful & Dauntless Magazines walked in a Macy’s fashion show and had a 7-page editorial feature with Joy Ludwig Photography in Picton Magazine. One of my favorite experiences was on the morning program ABC’s Sonoran Living as a model on with amazing designer Danese Creations. She is a master of her craft and a legend in Arizona. A few years ago, I started a women’s networking group and have tried to make a difference for women in the industry. Highlighting models of diversity, every age, size and shape. That is what I am most passionate about!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have definitely been obstacles and challenges along the way for me. I’m sure everybody has their own bumps and hurdles to conquer… One of the issues I had when I started modeling, my husband was serving in the Army and when we moved, it felt as if I had to start over each time. It was at times difficult and exhausting. Continuing to network and establish myself in the community then eventually, building an amazing support system and network around myself. Now it is a global community! Turning my struggle into a positive tool for myself and others makes me very happy!

Please tell us about Women Networking in Photography.
Something extremely special to me is the group Women Networking in Photography that I founded in Phoenix, Arizona and have expanded to Los Angeles, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Colorado, Hawai’i, San Francisco, Guam and Ireland!! We are a sisterhood where we empower, uplift, inspire and protect each other in our industry. We promote diversity, BLACK LIVES MATTER, women of every age, shape, size, background, sexual orientation and race. In all my work, I am most proud of the women’s group, the connections that have been made and the beautiful art that is created! Thank you to all the amazing members who make this possible.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have begun chasing my dreams and loving myself sooner. For years I doubted myself and even refused to smile in pictures because I was embarrassed of my teeth imperfect teeth and having many gaps in my smile. Finally, I decided to embrace myself and love the way I look at 25 years and it’s been a work in process ever since. Even losing 60 pounds in one year by taking care of myself and putting nutritious and healthy food in my body, drinking more water and being conscious of what I was eating. Loving myself the whole way! Honestly, I didn’t believe that somebody who looked like me could actually be considered a real model, but I did it anyway. Believing in myself when many others didn’t.

Since the beginning of my modeling journey, I started an absorbing as much information as I could in the industry. Looking for information and researching, watching YouTube, studying legendary industry icons, practicing in the mirror. Also reaching out to people I aspire to be like in my community, paying coaches, asking for mentors, being taught model safety, runway walk, business talk and everything in between.. Very fortunate to be able to create incredible images and collaborate with amazingly talented ladies who guide me toward the model and women I want to be!

Creating the art I’ve always admired and dreamed of doing and making a difference! Of course none of this would be possible without passionate people, love and support from my husband, family and friends, professional hair makeup, amazing photographer, incredible designers, creatives and proper lighting! Thank you to every person I have met along the way. Aloha!
