Meet Aly Rae Tanner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aly Rae Tanner.

Aly Rae, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am 23 years old, and I have been modeling for about ten years. I am a Breast Cancer Previvor, and I am an advocate for BRCA- a genetic mutation that causes both breast and ovarian cancer. I was tested due to my mother having Breast Cancer because my father died from brain cancer and my mother had breast cancer I was tested for the BRCA gene. When it was positive, I opted to have the mastectomy. I had four back to back surgeries, and I went septic and almost died. I had one breast for over a year and because of that, I was dropped from my agencies because of my body and was told that I would never shoot swimwear again. I refused to take no for an answer and pushed to continue modeling. In 2018, I was published in Vanity Fair UK in a bathing suit. After this, I decided to create my interactive journals Memories of my Mammaries to help women document their journies through Breast Cancer. I also created my own Vegan/Cruelty – free makeup brand A.R.T. Cosmetics!

Has it been a smooth road?
No, my life has been a lifetime movie. My father passed away from brain cancer when I was thirteen, and then six years later my mom developed Breast Cancer. I then found out, I had the BRCA gene and had to have four back to back surgeries and almost died. After I lost my breast, I had really struggled with my body and had to fight certain industry standards.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
A.R.T. Cosmetics is a vegan/cruelty-free brand that I created to help with my mom’s skin while she was on chemo. Memories of my Mammaries is an interactive journal for Breast Cancer warriors, it helps them to document their journey while addressing their feelings. I love how much my companies have been able to give back and help women!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the city, and the people but dislike traffic.
