Meet Alonzo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alonzo.

Alonzo, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I come from humble beginnings. Born in Chicago, IL raised in Rockford, IL. I was a small-town boy with dreams of changing the world. Growing up in a small town with big dreams was not easy. I was ambitious, talented, and determined but I had many obstacles to overcome. As a child, I battled with anger and depression. I was so lost before I discovered the stage. When I was in the 7th grade, I won my first talent show doing a Michael Jackson impersonation. I had no idea that the standing ovation I received that night would have such a profound impact on my life. It inspired me to immerse myself in the arts and everything dance/music. I started entering and winning more talent shows, sang in school choirs, musicals, summer intensive programs and more. Before I knew it, I had found my passion. While attending my arts high school, I founded the dance crew Fatally Unique.

In 2011, I led the team to the semi-finals on season 6 of America’s Got Talent. After the show, I was really inspired to pursue my true dream of being a singer. Dance was fun but it wasn’t fulfilling. In 2013, I embarked on my 1st international tour as a solo recording artist. I went on to sell out 4 tours in China between 2013-2015. In 2015, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue music full time and the rest is history. I made the top 100 singers in Europe on the UK’s X factor. Today, I perform at some of LA’s top live music venues and was approved by the Prince Estate to sing Prince’s music on the 4 U Prince tour. I’m excited to be on my journey to more success hoping to inspire people along the way. There’s so much more to my story but I have always been a dreamer, a believer, and someone not afraid to take leaps.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely been tough but I’ve come too far to give up. I had to overcome many fears. Fear of being judged, not feeling like I was good enough, fear of failing and so much more. In LA, I’ve had to grind hard. I’ve always felt like the underdog. I’ve had to fight to be given a chance and today I continue to fight for relevance in the age of social media. I’ve been super close to life-changing opportunities and seen them taken away from me just as fast as they were given. I’ve been emotionally drained and overwhelmed but it has all truly been worth it. It has made me the strong resilient artist that I am today.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer with big dreams. I specialize in connecting with the human spirit. I’m most known for always singing from my heart. My purpose is to share these gifts while inspiring people to pursue their own. I’d say I’m most proud of touring with the 4 U Prince Tour. I was the first lead singer approved by the Prince Estate to sing on this tour.

The biggest thing that sets me apart from others is my heart and my talent. I have talent that could bring about arrogance but instead I choose compassion, I choose love, & I choose to fight against fear. That’s what makes me different. I understand that it’s not just about me. I have a very unique voice and I’m not afraid to use it.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely. There is no place like LA. This will forever be a place that builds character and a place where dreams can come true.
