Meet Allyson Sparrow of Love Sparrows

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allyson Sparrow.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story as an adult begins with working a 9-5pm office job. I had tons of creative ideas, but a boss that stifled my creativity and my voice. When I married my wife, Shelia, I wanted to do my own flowers. It’s always been a hobby that made me feel warm inside.

After some late night chats about what we envisioned for life, I realized that my desk job wasn’t fulfilling my dreams and never would. I decided on a day to quit and didn’t even make it till then.

My name is Allyson, and I call myself a flowery creator or bloom boss. I had a full blown artist living inside my heart, and I didn’t even know it. After leaping into creating my business, Love Sparrows, I’ve found so much fulfillment and happiness.

I spend my days looking at the bride’s Pinterest boards and my weekends bringing those boards to life. Flowers are my passion, they’re my art, and now they’ve become my work as well.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been some ups and downs + learning curves. Honestly, I’m not someone that will give up. So, when I’ve had some slow months here and there, I find a way to make a job happen or come to light. I quit my job and was scared about being able to pay my bills, but a month hasn’t gone by that I haven’t been able to pay them!

The biggest struggle I’ve had starting my own creative business was learning to stand up for myself and my value. I’m not a confrontational person, and I surely don’t speak up very often nowadays. However, I’ve learned as time has gone on to be stern in my worth. I struggled and went through some AWFUL clients but now I’m finding a balance, and I’m learning to say no.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Love Sparrows story. Tell us more about the business.
My business is called Love Sparrows. We do mostly floral design for weddings or large events. We also bartend (well my wife does) and do a day of coordinating for weddings. We’re known mostly for wild, whimsical and bohemian flower designs.

I’m most proud of how far our company has come in such a short amount of time. Our first year in business we completed 51 events. For a first-year floral company, that’s AMAZING.

I believe that what sets us apart is the US. I’m a business gal, but I won’t talk to you on the phone like too much of a professional. When you speak to me, you’ll feel more like your chatting with a friend, while getting business done!

We never want couples to feel like they’re just another number to us. I want you to feel like you’re a friend, like what you think, want and feel MATTERS. It does to me, you matter. That’s what sets me apart, me. I’m one of a kind, and that’s what Love Sparrows is, one of a kind.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The wedding industry itself is always changing. People are always looking for the next big trend. However, I don’t think there will be any big “shifts.” It’s a constant industry. People are always falling in love and getting married.

In floral design, I think we will start to see some changes in how the industry creates and runs overall. We’ve always been used to flower shops (brick and mortar shops), but now I think that creative people everywhere aren’t as scared to get out there as a business.

You’ll see more people in the floral industry working from their homes or small studios.

The traditional styles and designers will likely stay in business doing things like funeral flowers or general deliveries. Overall, I think creativity and avant-garde styles will continue to bloom, as people are always looking for the newest, most exciting, never seen before style.
