Meet Alla Katkovski of Holy Chic Los Angeles in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alla Katkovski.

Alla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am the founder of “Holy Chic” Haute Couture Flower Box.

I worked for ten years at LVMH in Europe. Traveled the World and enjoyed my life. I always had good taste and chic style.

During my time at LVMH, I met my husband and even though I never dreamed of moving anywhere, I moved to Los Angeles five years ago.

While I was waiting for my US paperwork, I decided to use my free time off work and I attended the Judith Blacklock Flower School, the most famous Flower Schools in the World. My dream was always to graduate this school.

Once I settled in Los Angeles, I decided to start my own flower business. It all started on my balcony, spending sleepless nights creating and testing out my products, which at the time were fresh flowers in Haute Couture Boxes. I then tested them at my first location, the Brentwood Farmers Market. People LOVED my product but also asked if I would be creating preserved flowers in the future. It’s when I decided to add preserved roses to my collection. I spent months at the Brentwood Farmers Market, not sleeping the night before getting everything ready and loading the car with my husband at 5am.

Shortly after, we started pursuing other locations where we can open. We visited the Century City Mall where it was being renovated and fell in LOVE. We decided we found our new home and signed a lease to open a Chic French Style Flower Cart at their newly remodeled mall.

Three years ago, we added our retail location in Santa Monica on Montana Ave. Our Chic location allows people to come in, enjoy our beautiful flowers, smell our brand new scented candles and take some AMAZING pictures.

We have also expanded and have had pop up location at the Grove Mall, while also planning to open a pop-up location and Pacific Palisades in the near future.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was never easy. It took some for me to learn the language and to be able to communicate with my clients. I had a lot of help along the way. I spent four months interning at a flower store in Hollywood and made some amazing friends who would help me if I struggled with understanding something.

I am also a perfectionist so I was not happy till my product was perfect. I spent a lot of time making changes to my boxes. I want my customers to enjoy my products as much as I enjoy them and will put my heart into making them that way.

In the beginning, I did everything by myself, from making the product to delivering it and answering the phone along the way.

Another challenge is we self-funded our whole company. It wasn’t easy but I am proud that I was able to build the company without any outside help.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
