Meet Alix Camp of Yoku Jewel in Ventura

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alix Camp.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I spent much of my time alone as a kid so I had plenty of space for introspection and daydreaming. Though I had a happy and sweet childhood looking for fairy homes in the backyard, I had frequent nightmares, hallucinations and paranormal experiences. In school, I had trouble focusing and was often described as a “space cadette.”

When I was about 14 years old, I took my first silversmithing class. Shaping the metal and using an open flame torch was mesmerizing to me. It grabbed my attention and brought me instantly into the moment like nothing else I had experienced. Bringing my designs off the paper and into the “real world” felt like sorcery.

I wouldn’t find jewelry making again until my early 20s. During that time I also began to explore meditation and energy work and was introduced to Reiki Healing. This beautiful practice was the catalyst of a powerful, yet gentle transformation in my life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve found that the struggles come up most when I make important decisions with my head and not my heart. I believe we all have a much higher intelligence about what’s best for us and it almost never feels logical. It’s scary to trust that guidance unless you’re practicing it regularly, but so worth the magic on the other side.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Yoku Jewel was born in 2017 and has since become a jewelry brand as well as the alias of my reiki offerings.

I specialize in customized jewelry where I work with clients to bring to life wearable sacred symbolism. We play with geometry, intuitive shape, and stone medicine to create unique pieces from commitment rings to healing pendants… The majority of my handcrafted creations are made with recycled metals and fair trade gemstones.

I also am a certified Reiki Master and offer reiki healing sessions out of my Ventura studio. My reiki style uses breath, ancient Chinese stone medicine, and aromatherapy to assist in clearing energetic blocks to allow the body to heal itself and naturally maintain its balance. Each session is specific to what the client needs and provides gentle yet deep energy work for relaxation, emotional relief and manifestation.

I’ve come a long way and have really worked to shape my life so that I experience very little stress or hustle. Everything is done rather slowly and gently. There’s some potent magic in a handcrafted item made with that calm focus. Working with my hands daily has become a sweet meditation for me to nurture my inner peace. The jewelry pieces I’m left with are the pretty byproducts. This lifestyle keeps me really clear so I have plenty to offer to my energy healing clients. The jewelry making feeds the reiki practice, the reiki practice feeds the jewelry making, and so on. 🙂

I definitely take some pride in the quiet life I’ve created since, as you know, regular self care has become a rebellious task in today’s busy world. I love being able to nurture each of my clients like they are a newborn baby. If I was running around each day spreading myself thin, I wouldn’t have the ability to give them that kind of attention.
