Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexsia Cano.
Alexsia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from a small town in Baja California born to an immigrant family. I’ve always had a passion for the arts. Growing up in a farming community there weren’t many avenues for artistic freedom and expression, but I never gave up on my craft. I always strove to be better. At 18, I gave my dreams and passions my everything. I packed up what I had and moved to Orange County to start my life as an actress, model, designer and artist. Over the years, I have developed and honed my craft, mostly through passion, trial and error. There are so many skills I have yet to master, but I hope to show people you don’t have to be the greatest artist in the world to make an impact. I want to show everyone there is as an artist inside us all. You don’t need a degree or the best tools or equipment to make amazing designs and art. All you need is passion and the belief in yourself that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have struggled a lot over the years with my mental health and my physical health. Having a chronic illness can be very overwhelming and can really change your whole life. What most would consider a simple task can be difficult and sometimes painful with someone with my condition. I fight every day to keep myself alive and sometimes the day after day stress and fatigue can cause me to be less than likely to function at full capacity but I try my best to not give up. It hasn’t always been an easy road, but I know as long as I am able to create art, I am able to get through anything.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Currently, I am living in Orange County surrounded by a beautiful community full of wonderful artists. Making the best of the current situation and doing my part to stay in and keep those close to me safe and healthy. I am a jack of all trades type of person, include acting, modeling, cosplaying, designing, makeup and resin/nail art. Specializing in creating my own looks from scratch down to the smallest detail. I always try to add a fresh new spin on new and already created designs, making them my own. I would say I am most proud of my accomplishments, of overcoming my fears and anxieties to pursue my dreams. I feel what sets me apart is my ability to fabricate entire designs on my own from top to bottom.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would say the one thing I would do differently is trust my gut instinct more. I feel sometimes I have let my insecurities, or even let the opinions of others make me doubtful of what I am capable of. Believing in one’s own abilities can sometimes be a daunting task, especially when you have feelings of anxiety or think you won’t succeed. Through the years, however I have learned to better trust myself I know I can succeed and achieve whatever I set my mind to.
