Meet Alexandra Shepherd of Alex Be Well in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Shepherd.

Alexandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m an actress, producer, dancer, figure skater, and fitness teacher who began my professional career at nine years old performing with Miami’s Ballet Randolph. I studied Musical Theater at New World School of the Arts and went on to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in Theater and Dance from The George Washington University. While in college, I discovered yoga and meditation.

Shortly after graduating from college in 2004, I did my first yoga teacher training. I have been teaching yoga and meditation ever since. My interest in health promotion and prevention and complementary and alternative medicine led me to apply to graduate school programs in Public Health. In 2006, I was accepted to Barry University’s Master of Public Health program and earned my MPH in 2008.

After graduate school, I followed my passion for theater to Chicago, where I performed in avant-garde and experimental theater projects, award-winning independent films and commercials. While continuing to teach yoga and barre fitness classes at Chicago’s top studios and gyms, I enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and became a Certified Health Coach. As an actress and dancer, I know first hand the importance of one’s appearance and overall health. Since 2012, I have worked with clients on their fitness and nutrition helping to guide them toward long-lasting health and a positive mindset.

Since moving to Los Angeles in 2016, I have continued to work one on one with fitness and nutrition clients as well as in studio at Exhale Santa Monica and SoCal Equinox locations while pursuing my film and television career. I am so grateful that my experiences with yoga so many years ago sparked a passion for life long mind-body wellness. It’s an honor to pass my knowledge and experience on to others.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We all face obstacles and challenges in life. It’s part of this human experience. As any “creative” knows, the road is never smooth but I believe that my yoga and meditation practice have allowed me to develop a mindset to embrace the obstacles and challenges along the way with love and gratitude.

Please tell us about Alex Be Well.
Because of the pandemic and the inability to teach in studios and gyms or even in client’s homes for the time being, I have turned my business to the digital space. Thank goddess for Zoom! Am I right? As a fitness teacher, I specialize in yoga for all bodies. Whether you are a seasoned yogi working on your handstand or a beginner with injuries, I tailor my private yoga sessions to my client’s needs. It’s all about you! As a barre teacher, I am known for my fun and informative classes as well as my precise cueing. I currently teach Barre fitness classes on Zoom three days per week. Mondays and Tuesdays at 9am Pacific and a Barre with Cardio class on Thursdays at 9am pacific. What sets me apart is my education and deep knowledge of yoga, barre, meditation, and nutrition. I am also your biggest cheerleader!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, honestly, I would have moved to LA sooner and started a fitness YouTube channel years ago!
