Today we’d like to introduce you to Aleah Harris-Hosea.
Aleah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from Montgomery Alabama but raised in Dayton Ohio. I’ve recently moved to California to embrace a larger audience for my artwork and clothing line named ChurchLingo.
ChurchLingo is a Christian clothing that was inspired by Jesus Christ and his words from the bible. When ChurchLingo was created I was going through an identity crisis and turned to GOD for help in my life.
My love of art grew from childhood, since somewhere around first grade. I was very active as a child. My family needed something to calm me down.
It started with things like coloring books and Light Bright pegs. Every Christmas, every birthday, I had some kind of art tool to work with.
As I got older my grandmother inspired me to start drawing. She ordered a drawing contest that was advertised on TV, once I received it completed the sketch, waited about two weeks for the results to come back. When the results came back it read thanks for entering in the contest, unfortunately, you didn’t win but she trying again when skill improve.
After comprehending what the letter said I’ve been a move ever since then. It wasn’t until I got this a serving job in Montgomery AL called wishbone cafe where I was blessed to have my artwork on the wall. The owner Paul Dallas liked my artwork and thought I would bring more character to his place and it did.
The customer’s were so amazed by mt work it laid me and article in the Montgomery Al Advertising.
So I decided to move to California to embrace a larger audience and will be attending the Ontario Art Festival on October 19th, 2019.
Good luck with the upcoming festival, we hope it’s productive for you. Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Before getting the opportunity to display my artwork in Wishbone Cafe, I didn’t have no job, I was depressed about some life decisions I’ve made, worrying about my mother and her health and facing an identity crisis, but going through what I went through has made me into the hard-working, dedicated, spiritual, creative person I am today. I appreciate my struggles.
Appreciating the struggles and not letting them get us down is so important. What else should we know about ChurchLingo?
Well for ChurchLingo was established in 2014-2015 back in Montgomery AL. I’d just moved back to Alabama from Ohio. I was grieving the lose of my cousin Tim and my Great Grandmother Kate who had passed around the same time from each other. During the grieving process, I just felt so lost and confused. I trying to find ways to cope with the lost by drinking, smoking, partying and dating. I ended up in this one relationship where I was so confused, hurt and heartbroken I became depressed and really needed something to fix my soul so I turned to Jesus.
Even though I was raised as a Christian I strayed away from that path but I knew deep in my soul I need some spiritual help. So I started going to church, bible study, reading the bible, listening to Christian music, praying and ask the Lord for forgiveness. I stop smoking, drinking, going out to clubs and listening to worldly music for awhile. By this time my mind is clear and I’m ready to motivate people around me with the Lord’s words and that how ChurchLingo was created.
PS. I purchased a machine to press up the T-shirts, hats, key chains, jackets and hoodies. So all merchandise is pressed by me.
As far as LolliCakes Famous Art, I’m also a contemporary artist who specializes in sketching portraits and painting.
I’m using the funds from both businesses to someday open my own homeless shelter and a Dietetic Spa.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment is getting this interview with LAvoyage and getting accepted to showcase my artwork at Ontario Art Festival on October 19th, 2019
