Meet Alana Talbert of ARTWerk Creative in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alana Talbert.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alana. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
My story started in the 5th grade when I figured out that there was a demand for printed song lyrics of our favorite radio hits (this was 1997 so gimme a break) and I had a printer, binder, & sheet protectors.

Lo and behold, I had a business on my hands. Years later, after selling printed song lyrics, lollipops, etc. which supplemented my allowance, I started designing trucker hats in 10th grade during the Von Dutch era.

Business was booming, and I was just living my best creative life, selling things that I was already making for my enjoyment. College came around, and I decided that I wanted to put myself on track to becoming a business owner. Internships with Adult Swim/Cartoon Network, Disney, and Lexus gave me foundational skillsets in Operations, Customer Service and Networking.

I thought working with a smaller company in their Business/Office manager position would propel me to full-time business owner… and little did I know that being in that position would force me out of the office life altogether. A week after leaving that job I was on my way to a Retreat for Women Entrepreneurs.

At this retreat, one of my mentors told me to start a business using my passions, and at the time my passion was Disneyland. I developed a company that sold itineraries to the Disneyland resorts for people who booked a thousand dollar vacations and had no idea what to do with their time once they got to the parks. It was a good time.

I was going to the parks once a week to do my research and write blog posts, but eventually, I felt that I needed more. Then came ARTWerk Creative, where I am a Business Coach for Creative Entrepreneurs like myself. I create online courses and provide 1-on-1 coaching sessions to beginners who want to develop an online business using Instagram as their primary platform.

Has it been a smooth road?
ARTWerk was developed from my challenges in business. Every course that I create now is based on an obstacle that I faced in starting my first company, and my hope is that with my courses other creatives can skip a hurdle or two and get to the finish line a bit smoother than I did.

Jumping into the world of online business with no previous experience is hard. I was a Sociology major, and no one taught me how to build a sales funnel or generate leads when I was in school, so I had to piece together a curriculum of my own so that I could build the business that I needed.

Investing in courses and mastermind groups that ended up being a bust was discouraging in the beginning but eventually, I found teachers and mentors that spoke to me in ways that were approachable and digestible, so I hope that I can be that for all of my clients to make their journey as fulfilling as possible.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with ARTWerk Creative – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am the Tour de Force of ARTWerk Creative. In this position, I am a Business Coach for my clients, and I do 1-on-1 business consulting as well as developing online business courses and digital products such as e-books and video modules for my people.

As a company, I love how involved I get to be with everyone who comes into contact with ARTWerk. Most of my clients become friends of mine. It’s pretty dope. I haven’t heard of any other Business Coaches who operate this way, but my clients are the absolute best.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
I was born in Los Angeles, CA and I have never left. I love this city because of the diversity and incredible weather.

I am a traveler, bit by the travel bug early in life, and I don’t like that LA is so comfortable in itself (which it has every right to be) that so many people don’t see the point in ever leaving.

LA is kinda like a perfect bed… why would I leave if I don’t have to?
