Meet Alan Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alan Taylor.

Alan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a second generation Realtor and the third in my family to sell Real Estate, it is in our blood!  Four generations of our family have either worked or lived in the Sherman Oaks/Studio City/Encino areas. I first got started in residential lending out of college for about five years and then decided to make the switch to selling homes. It’s been awesome and I love it!  I have a dynamic team and we work together at a modern Real Estate firm (with Compass) to bring our clients a new and exciting Real Estate experience.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Moving from Lending to Real Estate was tough, because to some degree I felt I failed to make it as a lender, the numbers side was just harder for me. When you are new in business and are scratching your way to the top, you doubt yourself and your ability to become successful. As it turned out, I just needed to move from selling interest rates to selling homes. I love people, places and representing sellers of fine homes. We deal with issues and situations as opposed to numbers and lending guidelines and I prefer that much better.  Having said that, the experience in lending was huge for my clients as I am able to guide them through which offer to chose and how the loan process works. While I wish I started in residential sales earlier, I really do value and use the lending experience to help me so it is all good in the end.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Alan Taylor Real Estate Group – what should we know?
We love what we do!  We are primarily listing agents and have developed a selling process that has the latest in social media, property videos, VR tours and more. Essentially, we do everything possible to make sure that our homes are seen by the most amount of people and that makes us and the seller more successful. It’s hard balancing a mix of both buyers and sellers, you can be pretty good at both, but if you really want to excel at being a listing agent, then you need to spend all of your time understanding property marketing, building transaction management systems and everything you can to ensure that you offer more to sellers in a competitive market place and that is something we have done well.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Absolutely! I give lots of credit to all of the people that I have worked for along the way. My first lending job was with one of the top lenders in LA and I got to learn systems, organization, process and hard work. When I moved over to the residential side I had a few mentors – my father who’s also in the business really new the technical side of the deal, had sort of like a lawyers mind – that was huge for me. Office managers that I worked with over the years, my company owners and EVP’s who mentored me all have played a huge role in my growth and success. Perhaps the most significant to me is our company attorney – he is one of the best Real Estate lawyers in town and I have leaned on him so much over the years, it has made me so much better and smarter at what I do.  I can’t them all of them enough.
