Meet Alahji Versace of Forever Working Music in Downtown, Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alahji Versace.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been rapping since a kid, when I was around ten years old I use to have a notebook book that I would write all my lyrics into then have my little sister record me rapping them. Writing music has always been a way to express what I’m going through at that particular moment. My mom used to tell me that I talk too much and someday my words will make me rich. I know she never thought it would be rap.

In the beginning I was very shy, I never wanted anybody to hear me rap just because I wasn’t comfortable with my voice just yet. As I got older, I started going to studios to record my music which I later realized was very expensive for a high school student that could barely keep a job. Eventually, I came up with an idea that I should try to find a way to buy all the necessary equipment needed to make my own home studio just for me to save money and also perfect my craft. It was hard trying to save enough money to buy equipment but after my first year of college in Connecticut, I used my refund check to buy a laptop, mic and headphones. It wasn’t much but in my head, I felt that it was enough to at least give me an idea on how to record my own music.

I set up a little studio in my dorm room and started practicing on GarageBand. The quality wasn’t all the way there but to me, it felt like I accomplished something I been dreaming of for years. Eventually, my loud music gained attention from other students in my dorm which made them want me to record them, at the same time, it helped me learn more about the recording process. After some time, College wasn’t working out for me so I left Connecticut to go back to my hometown Maryland to continue to pursue music. I did that for years eventually, I Started frequently visiting Atlanta to do shows and network with other artists. I still felt like I wasn’t where I wanted to be music-wise, so in 2019, I packed all my stuff and drove three days to California to pursue my dream of being an artist/songwriter. I’ve been here for a year now and I can honestly say it has been the best decision I’ve ever made,

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest obstacle I’ve tried to overcome even to this day is not having a team. I do everything myself which really Makes it difficult for me to reach my full potential.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I created a brand called Forever Working. I’ve always been a hard worker in anything that I do. I pride myself on being good at everything I touch. I feel like in order to be good at something you have to work hard at it and also stay persistent, it’s that simple. I created a clothing brand name Forever Working Apparel which gained a lot of attention due to the fact that everybody can relate to working hard. My goal In the future is to help give opportunities to upcoming artist that never had help the same way I didn’t.
