Today we’d like to introduce you to AJ Fojas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us AJ. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
My journey to a creative profession really begins from a bad break up. I was in a relationship and got dumped by the girl of my dreams because I had no direction in life (among other things) and I had no drive to better myself. I was really lost and not transitioning into adulthood well. I guess I just didn’t know what I wanted to do or what I was passionate about, so I documented my thoughts and what I was doing with my life on a weekly vlog via YouTube.
I fell in love with storytelling and video content creation and called the project: Note To Self. Filming from my phone, being the most transparent I’ve ever been to an audience behind a screen was nerve-wracking but so inspiring at the same time. Through vlogging, I was blessed to be taken under the wing of great videographers. They taught me how to use a camera and set me up for success by putting thousand dollar cameras in my hand.
By giving me their time and pouring in wisdom about how to edit, how to set camera settings, and even paying me for assisting them on weddings and other shoots. When I talk about being blessed by their time I’m not exaggerating, I didn’t know the most basic of camera settings or functions! But, they continued to give me opportunities to work and even opened doors for me to do this for a living.
This was three years ago, since then, I’ve been working as a full-time videographer for almost two years now. I finally found my passion through video content creation, make enough money to take care of myself, I moved out of my parent’s house, and I won back the girl of my dreams. We have been married for a little over a year now and have a beautiful 11-month-old baby girl. I couldn’t be more thankful or grateful.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This journey definitely hasn’t been smooth. Freelance work and owning your own business never is. I deal with questioning my skills all the time, and that leaks into client discussions, sometimes leading to being underpaid for massive, time-consuming projects. This isn’t even getting into loved ones constantly questioning your stability of income because of this line of work. But still, if you love it, nothing will stop you.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a video content creator with experience in real estate video, live music performances promotional videos, teaching courses, and weddings. I think the thing that makes me unique is the show and community I host: A Creative Corner.
ACC is a project I started as a way for me to give back to the creative community, much like the way other creatives helped me when I was starting out. The goal for this project is to inspire, inform and connect creatives through interviews with other creatives.
I interview creatives from all walks of life and mediums, whether they are photographers/videographers, tattoo artists, songwriters or woodworkers. I seek out those who are experts at their craft to help others through their wisdom. Hey! if this resonates with you join the community on IG: @acreativecrnr
What were you like growing up?
I don’t think I ever really “grew up,” I got older for sure, but I feel like I’m the same AJ; loving to hear other people’s life stories and finding ways to tell them to others. I love and always have loved seeing other people be moved from the stories I tell. My ultimate interest and passion is in My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Acts 20:24- “But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”
