Meet Ahzel of YT Entertainment in Covina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahzel.

Ahzel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My name is Shawn Anthony Rubio better known as Ahzel which is a name that was giving to me as a teen during are time of doing graffiti. I was born in the city of Glendale as a child grow up in Highland Park, CA. My father was killed when I was the age of six from gang violence. After his murder, we left toward the San Gabriel Valley where we located to different homes ranging from cities like Rowland Heights, Covina, Pomona, Chino and Fontana till I was the age of 19. I never stood in a house longer than 3 or 4 years. I believe these events made me the person I am today with not having much to rely on going through the opticals life brought. I’ve always been into sports and was a competitive kid which also taught me a lot of social skills. I was never good in school but learned to develop the skill of learning at a later age and learned knowledge is power and it’s not what you know its who you know.

During this time, I’ve always been into music as a youth my first music I can remember singing the songs to were songs like Nirvana “smells like teen spirit”, Red hot chili peppers ” Under the Bridge” and Ice Cube ” Today was a Good day” music has always been a way of life for me even from my mom always ordering cds from magazine’s like Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey and Outkast and my older brother play Aftermath. I’ve always wanted to create a movie of my life which I believe the videography really picked up because I can visualize what people can relate to and try to share there story. This is the tip of story theses are a few key things that inspired me to me where I am today.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth right but its been a ride with lessons form unloyal friends, the loss of my dad, my mom moving back to New York where she was born, my house getting robbed and not having much but friends that only interests was their self. I was in a music group that I spent over eight years with and at the end of it all there interest wasn’t the same as mine.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the YT Entertainment story. Tell us more about the business.
I currently run an independent clothing line, “Yellowtape Clothing” I am a freelance videographer and have a Commercial music studio. My video work is different than others because every treatment gets a custom touch I don’t make every video I make look like the ones before it. I believe my good soul and positive vibes help make people feel comfortable to work with and the quality speaks for its self. I am most proud of my companies because of the inspiration I can give back to my community and people in my position that they can do and make better of them self.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see me running own video and music studio, hosting events for kids with disabilities and inspiring the less fortunate community to do more and keep hope to continue a trend to inspire.
